shame, good player who we are far better with than without

any one who blames palmer for goals at corners doesn't understand zonal marking

No you've posted three goals that Palmer is on the pitch for and said he's lost his man.

Could do the same for just about any goal with just about any player.

Yeah ^ this.

I trust Robins to make the right decisions on players. Hopefully he'll have an important part to play next season.

Tayo Adaramola First Words - CONFIRMED Signing!

www.skybluestalk.co.uk

Palmer is rarely fit, we’ve seen that all his career. He’s a liability off the ball but can be fantastic on it. He will have a role as a squad player behind Allen, O’hare and another signing hopefully.

Well that is utter bollocks, he tracks back and gets stuck in. utter myth that he is lazy

Palmer was left on for 3 or 4 minutes. He hobbled about and tried to jog once or twice. As soon as he went down it was obvious he had a serious injury.
It was mad not to take him off straight away imo.

Yep, they do it time and time again. Absolute madness they ever allowed him to play on. Memory serves someone even passed it to him and he kicked it away and then fell back down. Amateur hour I'm afraid

Anybody would think it is how the AM is being told to play as Allen does it too.

I think Allen has been good this year but how many goals have come from him being easily beaten?

Here's Allen losing his man for all 3 Swansea goals.

Shocking I'm sure you'll agree.

Number 10’s defensive ability can be crucial in the modern game. He does some good stuff if you like aimless running and ridiculous slide tackles which you do. I prefer Allen’s tactical defensive work

For me it's not the lack of work rate, it's the lack of smart work rate. He will chase the ball 50 yards unnecessarily sprinting to close the keeper down, or throw himself in to a tackle on a fullback in the final third to concede a throwing. That gets the crowd going, and adds to his stats

But when we lose the ball and the opposition have a bit of possession, instead of getting back into shape, closing down space or passing lines, etc, he stands up front watching.

Blimey, you'd think the management team would have a word with him about that.

Why don't we just sign someone who is class at unlocking defences like Palmer but is also an accomplished ball winning midfielder? Plenty of them knocking about on our budget Im sure

Great well pick up another couple as it’s not a unique selling point of O’Hare or anything.

I thought he started contributing well on the pitch, but what has happened is exactly what the concern was by many at the beginning of the season. A high wage, and a lot of question marks about how much he can actually get onto the pitch. It took him ages to get fit, which I think you can probably excuse in many ways because he hadn't played in ages, but now he's out for the season. A bit of a flash in the pan really, and whilst I was glad to see him starting to enjoy his football and provide some quality on the pitch, I'm not really surprised at this outcome.

Completely agree but to sign him now would be well beyond our means.

We spend our budget on players who are lacking in some way so are affordable but have the right attributes and mentality to develop. Takes time and is hit and miss though

If next season follows the same pattern, he'll be a poor signing in the end. Optimist in Me hopes that the silly workload on him and Allen with the injuries to O'Hare and Godden accounts for this spell out the side. Here's hoping!

Well Palmer is out now until August let’s live with it plenty of time now to get him 100% fighting fit, if he comes back anywhere near his best and with better players around him it will be a thumbs up from me but consistency all game has to be essential none of this hot and cold stuff we’ve had, a fully fit Palmer and O’Hare added to better players what a pairing that could be.

True, and when the two came together he showed how good he can be. People are slamming him because he tore his hamstring!
If he can get back to those kind of performances at the start of next season, he is 100% someone I'd want in the squad.

Agree, unless we can dig up another O’Hare from somewhere once recovered from his ACL what an addition to what is hopefully a better squad. imo one of the issues we had when O’Hare was in the team was at times brain wise on a different level to most.

Over the last 3 seasons (for fair comparison):

O'Hare has managed 111 Championship appearances, starting 94 of them and completing 90 minutes more often than not.

Palmer's record is poor in comparison:

70 appearances, 38 starts:

This season: 19 starts, completed 90 minutes in 9 of them
Last season: 1 start, completed 90 minutes 0 times
20/21: 18 starts, completed 90 minutes once.

Some of the omissions are down to him falling out with Pearson but he's clearly not somebody than can be relied upon in the same way, until two freak injuries this season, O'Hare was.

Yeah O'Hare was bullett proof last couple of seasons. Lets hope he gets that back next season, eh.

I think this is a funny season to be fair to him, players that never seem to get injured have been and those that do have been constantly. Kelly, Godden, Palmer have had multiple injuries, Sheaf has had his yearly injury, and Fadz and O’Hare who never miss a game have had big ones.

Over his career I don’t think he’s had many layoffs that I can find, a thigh problem in 2017, and minor knee injury last year, and that and his current issues could be put down to how little football he played last year. I’d like to see him given at least another year before we decide he’s a crock

But it's not just injuries, it's how long he took to get up to speed, how often he could last 90 minutes, how often he could play two games in a week.

Couple that with the injury (the cherry on the fitness cake!), and it just adds up to a season of waiting really. Sure, it looked like he was finally starting to impose himself on a game for more than a quarter of an hour, but it took him half of the season to get to that stage!

Yeah, we just need to buy a few perfect all-round players

I’d argue that the closest we have to that is actually Hamer (at least the new-look version of him), who gets about so much we understandably play him more as a box-to-box midfielder. But in the absence of so many AMs at the moment, I’d be tempted to play him in that role for a while. He’s got the best shot in the squad on him (low bar admittedly), has an eye for a pass, and would have no difficulty pressing and winning the ball high up the pitch. The form of Eccles and the return of Sheaf makes it feasible to release him further forward. He might be dynamite given that licence.

It's not ideal, but we need more attacking threat. O’Hare, Palmer and Allen are all missing, so I’d give Maguire a go alongside him at AM, and just play Vik up front because Godden really looks out of sorts to me.

Palms is a quality player on his day and is a completely different sort of AM, one that we’ve not had since Bright in his first spell. Its nonsense to compare him to Allen and O’hare as they are all different players. I’ve been an Allen critic in the past and up until recently but I think he has proven his worth this season and O’hare we all know what he brings to the table.

He did well enough when he cared too, but not going to lose a ton of sleep over this as I think we have some viable options to take his place if you will for the rest of this season.Regardless, never want to see one of your own get hurt, so get well soon Kasey.

Yeah but he’s starting from a base of not having played at all last season. It’s his biggest weakness for sure, but I’m just not ready to that it’s endemic yet, he might play all next season. Or he might be Dabo or Godden and never get fit, well see.

Can you see, if he's fit for the start of next season, O'Hare taking as long to get up to speed?
