No way could he do the job that Allen does though for more than 45 mins against the better sides. We will see more of Palmer in games where we will have more of the ball and maybe when Ohare is back as well so the two of them can play behind Vik

This will be an unpopular opinion going by the ratings thread tonight but….I don’t see what he’s offering this team.

Having an AM who’s apparently prepared to come off the bench and throw himself around into diving tackles is fun, but I’m yet to see him take control of a game or even open things up much for us.

Tell me do you think Allen offers more?

It seems pretty clear to me what Palmer offers. He impacts on the play, with tackles, vision and gets into dangerous positions and I can see him scoring goals. Obviously fitness seems to be the downside.

Allen always shows great energy and fitness but very little else in my view.

I didn’t say he’s any better or worse than Allen - I don’t think either have had much impact on our fortunes so far this season tbh.

My point is that he was bought in as a very expensive like-for-like replacement for O’Hare but he doesn’t seem to do much of what O’Hare does at all. It’s a small sample size, but he doesn’t complete many passes and his finishing has been poor so far. Having a guy you can bring on midway through the second half to run around like a madman and throw themselves into sliding tackles is fun to watch, but it’s not what we’re paying him to do.

He wasnt brought in as an O'Hare replacement

He was a Shipley and Jones replacement to compete with Callum in the 10 role

He's just a whole level (or two or three) above Allen.

Allen has 2 goals and 2 assists in 72 Championship appearances for us. We need way more end product from an AM.

Palmer can give us more and I've said a few times that I think he'll be good alongside O'Hare.

Palmer looks a real classy player on the ball, doesn't panic and can keep the ball, play first time passes and sees the picture of the play. Allen as a number 10 just rushes his play at times.

Off the ball, Palmer is superb. His work rate for the team is evident to see. Genuinely think him and Ohares pressing and energy behind Vik is the way Robins will look to go in certain games.

Honestly some of his passes were sublime tonight.

The reverse no-look to Jockey Allen was world class and the touch for Hamer’s first was superb.

Lucky to have him and he’s just getting better!

Couldn't believe some of the comments I was seeing about him tonight. Expect it from Grendel but less so from others.

Everything good went through him and the key takeaway from that was that him and O'Hare are going to be very dangerous together

Such a talented player and makes things happen. If we can get and keep him fit our midfield could be really strong. Love his commitment too. These comments about lack of effort and impact are just ridiculous and on a level of idiocacy with the criticisms of Sheaf and Bidwell.

He is such a good player and is getting better with each game. Him at full tilt with COH, Hamer and Vik will provide some entertainment going forward that's for sure.

Few assists already and i see a goal or two in him as well. As a team we Just need to keep it tight at the back and those 4 wil create enough to win games.

You have one part right. He already has 2 assists so is far more productive in an attacking sense.

Palmer is an upgrade, also works hard is no prima Donna on the pitch a team player it's just people are carried away by his reputation ,lazy etc ,I believe what I see not baggage.
It was a bad night but city as a team on a bad night still clawed a draw and it's one game.

Yeah it was a poor pass. It was on the edge of their box though rather on the edge of ours.

Yeah that cost us a goal, though we had plenty of time to stop it and it's not like he played a pass across our 18 yard line. But at least he tries to make things happen whereas Allen plays the safe option every time and isn't capable of the passes Palmer can make.

A few misplaced and poor passes that led to a goal/dangerous situations but equally some fantastic touches and passes that led to a goal and penalty and some of our best moments. Good on the ball and puts himself about when not in possession. Certainly doesn’t shy away from a tackle.
Still think there is more to come and gives Robins a bit of a headache with a midfield comprising of 3 or 4 of Palmer, Hamer, O’Hare, Sheaf, Allen and Eccles.

Can't see any headache for Robins there. Sheaf, Hamer, O'Hare and Palmer looks really strong. The other two would be squad players.

Some of his passes are so good - they're almost too good in that no one else can read them!

But obviously that will improve with time playing together and I really can't wait to see him and O'Hare fully fit playing behind Gyokeres.

The people who said he was poor only ever look for negatives, doom and gloom merchants basically. Grendel needs someone new to pick on and I still have no idea what BSB was watching

Yeah it's pathetic.

You only need to watch him to realise he isn't lazy when he's chasing down fullbacks and slide-tackling them in their own half.

Again though, their fans said it when he signed for us so people won't move away from that.

He is very similar to Hamer in the sense that he tries to make things happen. He doesn't play safe he tries to be creative and with that he will make some passes and give away others.

Last night yes he gave a couple of simple sloppy passes away but he also created 3 big openings, 1st Allen should do better, then the assist for Hamer and then the ball for Ohare to get fouled.

So directly involved in both goals last night.

Players who never give the ball away are either always playing safe and backwards or are Players who wouldn't be playing in the Championship for us.

Robins on Palmer a week or so ago:

Out of possession he’s been brilliant as well as on the ball, he starts to make things happen.

Doesn't sound like someone who is lazy and with no work ethic to me.

There were two or three that got groans near me that were clearly the other players not on his level. Same happened with a few players when they first arrived.

And I’m sorry, we did this with Sheaf. Losing the ball on the edge of their box is never responsible for a goal. And defence worth their salt should be able to stop an attack from there.

Absolutely love the guy. Players like him Vik, O’Hare and Gus are why I pay the fee. Sheaf too. Just need most of the back five and the GK sorting and were a top six side IMO.

You're right, I only ever look for the negatives, except all the times I do the opposite. I've mostly praised Palmer's performances since he arrived including in games we've lost. Last night I saw him giving away possession and spurning a great chance to score at 0-1. To me, it wasn't one of his better games.

Which to be honest I was going to put down to lower energy levels generally in the squad because we have a fixture pile up and a skeleton crew, rather than some kind of individual attack on the player.

A midfield of Sheaf-Hamer-O'Hare-Palmer behind Gyokeres would genuinely be the most excited i've been about our midfield since the Chippo, Hadji, McAllister days.

Enjoy it in the next few games, I'm not sure they'll all be here by the end of January.

That clip just shows the difference in quality between Palmer and Allen, and it wasn't the only great bit of play from Palmer. Must say though that Allen did work so hard again last night.
