The main thing cov need is pace. It's the thing we've been lacking for years and every successful team seems to have pace in the side.
We've got to get a balance within the team of height, passing ability, pace, strength and most importantly: good team chemistry.
I think we have got to sign a pacy winger, a pacy striker, a CM with great passing ability yet who isnt scared to get stuck in.
I think the 4231 formation will kill us if we stick with it, it's too defensive and our midfield isnt currently strong enough to play with it. We've got to switch to 4-2-2-2 or 4-1-2-1-2 if we're gonna do well this season IMO.

Hines would add the pace, although by what Di Cannio said, he sounds unfit and maybe unwilling to work to get fit.
Adam barton sounds decent but could be another conor thomas?
that Halili sounded like he was sharp and quick, which is what we need on the wing, although apparently he's tiny and not quite up to scratch?

I think we should only sign Cazarine if Thorn's certain that we really need him, we already have Ball who's the big man, do we need another with us being under a strict budget?

Pace is important but not the be all and end all

Southampton last season had no lightning quick players in there side

well wouldnt want to disappoint you NLHWC. sorry was lacking in pace !

.............Pace is not all about a winger bombing down the line, it doesnt have to be that we have olympic sprinters in the team..... what is more important is the pace at which the ball moves, and whether that pace is injected at the right time. That wont happen unless you have players with speed of thought and a good first touch ........ unfortunately over the years we have often failed to get sufficient numbers of such players. But if we are simply going to pass the ball very deliberately along our defence before lumping a diagonal ball towards a small forward then there isnt much point to any pace we might have

It's not everything but it's very useful to have. Even if as a sub as a plan B or C late on in game.

Also a player running down the wing excites the fans. The runs of Ndlovu and Salako were great for getting the fans on their feet.

I agree DS but if there is no end product in the end it frustrates as much as excites

Indeed I'd say the difference between us under Thorn last season compared to the season before wasn't so much pace as tempo. The best passing sides move the ball at a high tempo, dragging opposition players out of position and making them work. Whereas last season we plodded around, making us easy to defend against and predictable.

Of course to play the passing game at tempo, you not only need players who are comfortable on the ball, but ones with good positioning and movement. That's the element we were missing most last season, and it's what King provided in spades.
