Is it something we really lack?

I think of players this year we have really struggled against, the likes of Mayenda, Bundu, Gassama.

We don't really have these sorts of players in our squad, the mavericks, who have just obscene bursts of pace and ability to burn full backs at will.

We have EMC and Sakamoto, but I'd say they are much more system wingers.

I think we really need to add these sorts of players to the squad to help us against teams that sit in a low block.

Got Rudoni as well but he looked out on his feet. Wright is another with pace and ability but never saw it last night

Yep that a big takeaway from the last month or so. We don't have that kind of spark player to beat teams that sit in on us

A good preseason and hopefully EMC will become one of those players but we need to start playing him in earlier

We only really have Rudoni and possibly Milan that can do that, Sakamoto is tricky but he's he's not going to drive with the ball for 30-40 yards. EMC hasn't really shown it either other than once against Preston.

Sheaf tried to be that player but kept running in too far and losing it.

If we were to sign a new CM, that’s exactly the type of profile I’d want. Big fan of this lad currently playing in Austria

EMC shows flashes of it, hopefully he has a good pre season and starts next season fit and sharp. For one reason or another he's just not quite looked at it. That little chip over Hulme last night before he was once again fouled was great.

We play some lovely football but miss the O'Hare/Palmer link in the middle. Rudi overall is better, but he's not playing ambitious passes through defences.

Ultimately the biggest issue remains the striker willing to gamble, make a run or be brave.

Think EMC will be key for us next season , already seems to have a good understanding with DaSilva so will be interesting to see if we have signed Brau and how he fits in .
Expect more goals from EMC next season too

Agree but he also needs to learn NOT to fall over at the slightest touch and claim freekicks that are often sadly quite laughable....2 or 3 last night and loads over the season..he and Wright are supposedly big strong guys....think my grandson takes challenges better than both

For me, it’s eradicating silly mistakes, lack of concentration and keeping clean sheets. How do we do that? Is it as simple as signing better defenders?

Not picking on our defenders, but why are we making mistakes week in week out, what are we practicing in training? At one point, we were conceding 2 a game and I guess 90% were our mistakes, not opposition great play

I think EMC is close to offering this. Hard to tell when we rarely get our forwards in real space in transition like the players at others clubs that people have called out.

I think Mason-Clark offers plenty of flair and trickery. It doesn't even matter if there are two players standing him up, he will still look to take them on. His footwork is incredible. He also has the strength to make him quite unusual for a winger. I like also the way he takes the ball on his chest, similarly to Cyrille Regis. He knows now that he is capable of being a top player at this level so hopefully he will start next season full of confidence.
I also noticed that Van Erwijk was getting to the byline more frequently recently. Two assists from excellent crosses in the last few games. I hope he continues to do this (if he stays) because he has the pace to do so.

Yeah, EMC offers a lot. Shame he got injured when he did. If anyone can be arsed to find out, seeing his mins per goal and / or assist would be interesting.

He looks quality, he would be a great addition also like the look of Kodai Sano from NEC Nijmegen, Japanese CM who's only 21, really good going forward and likes to take his man on

Next season will be a big year for EMC, he gets himself in the box to score goals and is difficult for defenders to deal with.

More athleticism is needed in the team if we’re looking to ‘Prem Proof’ the team. In midfield and defence in particular.

If we’re going to play with so much gaps between the lines, you need players who not only have the technicality, but the physicality to get back.

No player can run as fast as the ball can travel. We need more tempo in our passing at times. Also if a ball is played to a player near the penalty area it is only Grimes and Rudoni who will play it in first time.

We need to work the oppositions centre backs more and build pressure. We have too much possession on the half way line that doesn't hurt the opposition.

I am not advocating hoof ball, but our possessions needs more drive and purpose at times. Especially away from home we struggle to get our wide players on the ball and in the game at times.

Bassette, BTA, Wright, MVE and Raphael are all very quick by championship standards….. the issue is 3 of them are central forwards that we try to play in wide positions, one is defender and the only one who is true wide attacking player has other deficiencies to their game which means they don’t often get minutes.

Totally agree and if we are going to get the best out of EMC then I think he needs the ball early so he can try and isolate his fullback

I agree with much of this. It’s not helped by the fact Thomas and Kitch are poor on the ball and teams are happy to alllw them to have it. It forces Grimes back further and leaves a little isolated in the centre of midfield.

Passing the ball with pace is important but it doesn’t mean you don’t need pace in your players as well.

We need both.

EMC will make a formidable CF his size and he wins a lot of headers and as his ability to hold a ball and close control would enable our midfield to be involved more than it is today

There are not many examples of players converting to great strikers midway through their career…. There are some but they tend to be wide players who were strikers in their youth, pushed out wide when they broke into the first team but moved back to the centre as their physique developed.

Tbf he doesn't play as a typical winger, he often plays very narrow often off the right centre back as a second striker when we're in possession. All of his goals have come from making runs into a centre forwards position so it's not as daft as it sounds.
