Was Clingan really rated anyway?

Everyone called him Sammy Sideways whilst he was here, hardly a fans favourite

I'm not disputing he is a talented footballer and I would have been happy for him to stay around

But considering whilst they were all here they were labelled 'the big 3' - O'Hare was never ever in a million years in the same league as Vik and Gus for me, we managed to get to a play off final in a year he played just a handful of matches and I feel now we are at the point where we are starting to cope without him

Decent free kick taker though.

A video i took 14 years ago, still on YouTube. Look at the empty stadium!

Against Scunny as well, I watched Tamworth play them in the Nat League North last season which I found bizarre considering I have seen them play against, and beat us numerous times

Emerson was a very good player, his partnership with Lloyd Mcgrath was really coming on well before injury struck.
He was being watched by the big teams, and even being suggested as a future England player at one point.

Your right about the moustache though.

Eoin Jess.

Over £2m in the mid 90’s for a highly rated full Scottish international.

This was a time when the gulf between Scottish football and English football was less and Aberdeen were a top Scottish club (runners up at the time I think) playing European football.

Was expecting the next Gordon Strachan (who was here) but he ended up more like Gordon the Gopher.

Top that.

There’s a difference between overrated and poor.
There’s been a few
Sean Flynn
Paul Williams
Roy Wegerle
Kevin Drinkell
Nii Lamptey… that’s probably enough!
Dean Emerson was superb and destined for England pre injury

Yeah, not having the call for Stern John. He was class in front of goal. But some fans wanted more Andy Morrells.

Probably going to get a slap for this but I’d say Ndlovu and Whealen.

Both could pull out bits of unbelievable magic and the talent was there for all to see but neither were consistent and had long dry spells of doing fuck all.

I think some fans still want more Andy Morrell's now.
Players like Bassette run around a lot and so catch the eye, but because someone like Haji Wright doesn't track back, he gets labelled as lazy and yet he's still our joint top goal scorer even though he's been out since October/November

Gotta disagree on this one. Scored 6 in like 13 games and it was the only time Doyle looked like a decent midfielder.

Made our midfield look class.

that being said - always remember he should have been sent off like 5 seconds into his debut against Derby

Think people need to be realistic that his spell with us was a total fluke.

He did but I've not met a single one of our fans who rated him. He was a calamity.
Apart from JPT final or whatever it was called at the time, I'll give him that one.

Michael McIndoe tore us to shreds every time he played against us, especially once for Bristol City at the CBS

Signed for us and was dross, then scammed half the squad out of their savings

Always felt he played for himself . Consistently ran out of position and left others to cover for him .
When said others berated him they were met with a barrage of abuse

He was loved by the fans who prefer players to run around a lot

See opinions on Bassette for reference

A fluke in which way?

Turned a very poor side into a very good one. Easily one of the best players I have seen for us.

In recent times Todd “should be in the Prem” Kane takes some beating.

Arrived with high expectations, scored a fluke and then annoyed the rest of the squad.

(what was it that he did to “be lucky to get out alive”, anyone know?)

You can only really base it on his time with us though .

wise looked a class apart when he played for us. Him in our midfield led to us finishing 8th that season we never hit those heights again until Gyokeres turned up

I’d stick Whelan in the “unfulfilled potential” rather than overrated.

Technically superb and all the attributes to have played for England.

Women and booze ruined my chances of playing for the KEGS first team, also.
