I met him outside the ground after a reserve game don’t think he had played but he looked a bit like what the fuck am I doing here

Ben Sheaf.
Multiple errors in most games.
Couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.
(Honestly, when he strikes the ball it could go absolutely anywhere, only by the law of averages does it occasionally go in!)

Can’t blame him. Didnt he score that absolute belter for Uruguay at Wembley?

Came to say the same re: Shaw and Hall. I thought they were both useless but always seemed popular amongst fans.

I’ll likely be lambasted for this, but Chris Kirkland. Although maybe it was that he was thrown in when too young and raw and playing behind a struggling defence

Ben Turner I felt was overrated as well, people would eulogise over his (attempted) last ditch tackles, but forget that he was out of position all too often and gave the opposition chances to get in behind

Which “golden boys” of City players, past and present, do you think have inflated worths?

For me - Michael Doyle. Clogger whose penchant for bookings/ sending offs masked his limited ability.

To a lesser extent, Dean Emerson always seemed to have got a lot of praise. Was just a teenager in his pomp, but never saw it myself. Always injured and had a terrible moustache.
Emerson was a very good player, his partnership with Lloyd Mcgrath was really coming on well before injury struck.
He was being watched by the big teams, and even being suggested as a future England player at one point.

Your right about the moustache though.

Moldovan. The transfer seemed a bit fishy at the time.

Jarni, big name and rep - never kicked a ball for us. Lazy shit!

In truth, he’d have been amazing for us. Such a shame we were alleged to

Freddie Eastwood. Cost us a fortune back in the day, 17 goals in 4 fucking seasons!!! Utter shite.

Kevin Drinkle, another big money signing who came with a massive reputation, scored on his debut, and that was about it.
Total waste of money.

Reda Johnson - spent more time in the physio room than on the pitch.
He was strong and could head a ball but that’s about it!

Sticking to 'Golden boys and inflated worth' of first post.
Kevin Drinkell from the past, came with high expectations and cost at the time only to do nothing for us.
Ben Sheaf from the present based on valuations banded about at end of last season(circa 15 million). Highly inflated in my opinion given that he can't stay free from injury and performances to date this season.

Yeah, I was at that game. Snowy day. Nearly drove the car into a ditch on the way home.

Emerson was never the same. Still lives around here. The bloke who cuts my hair plays golf with him.

I was going to say Doyle, Konjic and Shaw.

More controversial but I also think McAllister has a better reputation than he deserved here. Not doubting he was a very good player, but he made us one dimensional because the team were clearly told to play through him so opposition teams just marked him out of the game and we had nothing. I also thought his corners were all too floaty, near post looking for a flick on.

I was young when he was here but I recall him being injured for his first 2 seasons and class in his final season just in time to do a runner to Liverpool.

Gotta disagree on this one. Scored 6 in like 13 games and it was the only time Doyle looked like a decent midfielder.

Made our midfield look class.

that being said - always remember he should have been sent off like 5 seconds into his debut against Derby

I think Doyle is overstated even in his second spell, Kelly a more important player imo.

I remember reading a Pompey fans appraisal of him when he joined us. It was something like, “I’m never really too sure what he does when he plays, but we miss him when he doesn’t”.
I thought he was rubbish when we had him in the championship.

I only properly remember his last season here when he was class along with Keane, Hadji, Chippo and Palmer. He's clearly a quality player when he has quality around him, but I've heard a few people say he was a waste of money before that season (3 million on a 32 year old, when we didn't have 3 million), and we had our best run of form while he was out injured (our still to this day, record breaking 6 wins in a row), and we went to crap when he came back into the team as he slowed it down too much.

And then his second spell as player/manager was abysmal. Bombing out our good youth players to train at the memorial park like Mcsheffrey and Bothroyd and surrounding himself with old has-beens like a 35 year old Dean Holdsworth. Watching us painfully try and tip tap it around with dog shit players while he makes himself out to be prime Pirlo, occasionally popping up with the odd wonder goal. But it was more like tragically watching a 38 year-old living out their last bucket list fantasy. The new lease of life in performances and results when Black took over and recalled all the youth players was vividly contrasting.

So hearing the way other Cov fans cum their pants over him, when he only really had one good season here then left for nothing, he's definitely overrated as a Coventry player, but not as an overall player. Probably one of the best overall players to play for Coventry, but wasn't great during his time with us. Those 2 things are allowed to be true.

Dom Hyam.

Liked him when he was here but in reality he's a meh Championship player. Fair play for him to get that far after joining us as aback up in L2 but we haven't missed him in reality and it was like the sky had fallen in when we sold him.

Going back a long way but Larry Lloyd came with a big reputation, cost us a fortune and did nothing.
