Not sure this will go down well with some. But it's there for all to see.

Out Weakest position currently, on form, is up front. You can all belly ache as much as you want, but they aren't top 2 material there.

We'd be miles clear with an effective forward.

Agreed, as dodgy as our defending is at times, and we're undone far too easily, far too often on a quick counter attack, we're weakest up top. You look at all the teams that have gone before, (Leeds 100points last year, Fulham with Mitrovic etc) and you dont see Wright or Simms fitting in to any of them teams. Has any team ever made top 2 with 2 average strikers and relied on goals from elsewhere in the squad? Maybe, i couldnt say. But its certainly a weakness we have currently.

Yep, I’ve thought how well we would do to win promotion with these two forwards.

Burnley weren't exactly known for their strong goalscorers. They had an unreal defence and snatched a lot of games.
Sheff United didn't have a great striker when they went up.
I agree Wright was not good today but sharing the goals around can be as effective as a clinical striker.
Torp and BTA have both been missing and so that's a lot of goals out of the team.
Plus Torp.does so much to link out play

Might be a controversial opinion, but I think if Simms starts every game this season and plays at least 75 minutes he would be on 14-15 goals at this point.

Frank has shown a lot of loyalty towards wright but unfortunately wright just don’t deserve franks loyalty

I keep saying we need a striker in this window to just get the job done for us.

We look a different prospect when BTA plays. He makes such a difference compared to Ruddoni, and I predict that Wright will start scoring once BTA is back in the side and Torp comes back in.

The midfield of Grimes, Torp and BTA is 100% our best. And Wright will benefit enormously once that midfield is restored.

Simms has scored most games he’s started…

Meanwhile, Sakamoto hasn’t scored since Halloween, Rudoni since QPR and Torp since October 18th. Our main goal scorers of late have been Simms, EMC and Eccles.

Haji has had his goal scoring issues, but to put it all on his shoulders is unfair.

Correct but it's not going to happen. We need to hope the midfield can carry us through.

No one is putting it all on his shoulders. He is offering next to fuck all. Not even a contribution of any note.

Burnley weren't known for their strong goalscorers?? Josh Brownhill finished leagues second top scorer with 18, only 1 behind Piroe who topped out with 19! They also weren't anywhere near as shit at the back as we are. You cant keep conceding goals like we do and expect to win games. Regardless of how good your strikers are.

IMO Haji Wright has his head at the World Cup, had a niggling injury, he don't want it to worsen. He will be desperate to stay in the USA squad. Next International break no doubt USA have some kind of warm up games and Wright will want to be part of it. Is he being careful or lazy? Lack of urgency and aggression?

On form?

Simms is averaging a goal every 90 and has 2 in his last 2 starts. Just play him and bench wright for the time being.

Haji Wright should have scored comfortably 5 goals since he returned to the starting 11. BTA not playing has not stopped Haji Wright missing several good chances. He is just having a bad season and in the middle of an incredibly bad run of missing high xG chances.

I’m not sure I agree it’s our best ‘midfield’ (it was 4-4-2) either. Going back to comments at the time, the consensus was that BTA in midfield left us overrun in the middle.

Dropping Simms for Wright while Simms was hot in form was a massive blunder by Frank.

Haji again today showing he couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. Not surprised he missed such an easy chance, my only surprise was being the only one not surprised.

Sakamoto hasn’t had a goal contribution since Halloween either and yet no one is stating that he’s not contributing. People still talk as if he’s undroppable and a top player.

Rudoni’s first assist of the season came v Birmingham and tbf, Torp has had 3 assists since his last goal (WBA).

When all said and done, it seems clear to all that Simms has actually overtook Wright in the Starting XI for now. We need more contributions from our wingers both starting and off the bench. To that end, Esse and MKY look like much needed signings.

The results show we score more goals and pick up more points when BTA plays

Difficult to get striker in during this window, especially domestic/european. I’d be maybe looking at MLS, ideally someone with previous English football pedigree. Tricky though.

I like wright and have said I feel he will score goals and help us get promoted on second half of season.

And I still believe that. However if we could sell for a big profit and buy another striker that will also score goals to take us to prem than I'm ok with that too

Good point. It’s difficult for everyone to get a quality striker in this window, but if anyone could manage it, it could be Cov as there are a lot of pros to offer.

Chalk and cheese. Esse does everything quicker than Sakamoto, there’s plenty more to come from Esse but some of this touches were top drawer stuff. He also had Lati playing behind him rather than MVE too, no disrespect to Lati but he’s nowhere near the attacking threat of MVE. Lati did impress me though at RB - he was solid.

Our fans definitely overrate that MVE-Sakamoto axis. Sakamoto is a good player, but just not a top end winger in this division.
