Are they good enough or not? Debate it here instead of the Calum Doyle thread and every other thread.

Sims? BTA? Bassette? Wright ?

Not good enough, there its been said, if we fall short at the end of the season like we did last season, for the want of a decent striker, its down to Frank and Doug for not addressing the one glaring weakness in the squad.

Should be the busiest thread on the site being as every other thread goes back to how good our strikers are or are not

I've often thought we'd be better with 2 out and out strikers, but again, formation and tactics are down to the manager.

No, but I can't see another coming in, unless we can offload either Simms or BTA

Yes, they are good enough. Yes, you can always improve. No, we don’t have the cash to improve everywhere

So do we play to our strengths? Are the tactics wrong for what strikers we have ? Rarely do we play through the middle !

No, they’re not good enough or turn up when it matters.

Potentially our biggest downfall this season is not having a shit hot striker. Move out whoever and pay the money to get the right forwards.

Entirely happy to be corrected, but weren't we one of the leading teams in the division for getting crosses into the box?

If so, you think it would be the perfect set up for Simms, but it's just not working for him at the moment.

If this is our style, would we maybe be better with a big lump of a forward who stays in the penalty area and sticks his nut in where it hurts! I'm thinking of a cheap Chris Wood type. There must be a few kicking around in the lower divisions we could pick up relatively cheaply. Just a thought...

If you sent Simms & BTA to Blackburn/Derby in a 5-3-2 they'd look like good championship strikers - like they did in our winning run

In the way we play we either need a striker who will bully defenders or one who will drop deep and contribute to the build up

Simms just doesn't attack crosses that well or make those runs.

With the wingers it does look like it's our game plan to get crosses in.

In my opinion, I genuinely think we would've reached the PL by now if we had a similar replacement for someone like Vik (at the time) but that hasn't happened. Easier said than done though, of course.

My mind just goes back to so many chances where we could have put the game to bed and yet somehow ended up drawing or losing.

It's been said before on this forum by someone- Simms has this weird habit of jumping under the ball. He did several times last night.

What's that about?

Someone who threatens the opposition goal not threaten our goal by rebounding and dropping us in the shit

The way we play doesn't suit Simms or BTA. Wright and Basette it suits a little more but still not ideal for them really, which is why Wright looked more effective out left.

We haven't had a striker that fits our style of play since Vik, and even then he just picked the ball up at the halfway line and ran with it half the time so he didn't really need to fit into the play, he just did it himself.

For the current and obvious style of getting the ball wide and then crosses into the box - a "Dion" all day long....

I don't think it helps, both Sakamoto and EMC seem to want to beat the defender 3 or 4 times and then play the ball backwards

I think this season is going to see a lot of crosses coming in with very low success rate of actually getting on the end of them let alone scoring

Personally, I think the one glaring weakness was the goalkeeper (with Dovin injured) which has been addressed. Wright has proven himself to be one of the most clinical strikers in the division over two seasons although not sure how serious his injury is and opinion is also skewed by his play-off performances. The others don't look great and we definitely need to strengthen but GK was the No1 priority for me.

I don’t think given the amount and quality of crosses we put into the box that they complement our style of play.

I keep having flashbacks of that cross from Sakamoto that should’ve taken us to Wembley.

Hopefully Lampard and the coaches having been working on this with them.

Im pleased with the recruitment so far, we obviously needed a GK, and by the looks of it we've got a good one. KKH is the cover we needed for MvE but obviously I can see him leaving before the window closes, dont know a lot about Brau but hopefully he will give us another option.

The 2 obvious shortcomings now are CH, and CF, but im wondering if we are waiting for a loan or 2 to come in later in the window, or if we're trying to offload before hand.

For the size and height of Simms, he underwhelms so often. Can't even hold the ball up most of the time. His crosses and passes are mostly over-weighted and he seems nervous in the box (hardly surprising). Last night it seemed others were doing their best to lay it off for him to score any which how, but he fluffed every chance. Sakamoto heads the ball better than he does.

For me he's had too many chances. Wright, if fit, can be fantastic as we have seen, but whether he really was carrying an achilles injury at the end of the season, or just wasn't up for it, who knows?

Basically the lack of striking threat(s) cost us the play off final, and Simms didn't play a minute in the two semi-final legs, so surely that says what Frank really thinks of him?

I hope the recruitment team are on it, the rest of the new guys were fantastic last night. This is our missing jigsaw piece as far as I'm concerned. Critical window for our playoff hopes.
