What a valuable away point Monday would’ve turned out to be..

Oxford are really on song, so have a viable chance against Donny. We need to all chip in for Nick's train fair to Walsall on Saturday, so he can two foot Marcus Madison when he gets off the team coach.

Well I didn’t expect that , beat Shrewsbury and hope Oxford do us a massive favour , Imagine going to donny knowing a win would seal the deal , fucking unreal

Can’t see Peterborough doing it either tbh , Pompey and burton will turn them over

Going in to the penultimate weekend of the season still in with a chance of the play offs, albeit an outside chance, is a great effort.

No real hope of overturning Doncaster goal difference if they get draw at Oxford. But, Peterborough is only a 7 goal swing so if they get draw we have a slim chance. Need Pompey to beat them by at least 2 and us to win by at least 3 to give us any hope.

Can we just close this thread and accept it’s over? Don’t think my heart can take us missing out by such a small margin

Right I've got a terrible hangover and had gave up hope but apparently it's back on??

Can someone explain in laymans terms for my sore head what we need to happen to get there?

We need to win our last 2 meaning we make 70 points.
That would mean donny need a point or a win at Oxford to knock us out of it. Oxford are on fire so if they win it goes to last day at donny for race to 70 points with them.
However Peterborough only need 4 points from their remaining 3 games to get to 70. The last 2 are Pompey and Burton so they could struggle with that.
Basically we’re going up mate

Notts County need to sell off some Roar Us To Wembley shirts to try and stay in the league, hopefully we can get a few thousand ready in time!

We haven’t been in a play off place all season. How good would it be to achieve that after the last game?

It would indeed be amazing, but by the same token, if we do miss out we shouldn't start the blame game of 'if only Thomas hadn't missed that or Burge flapped that we'd have been there' as a) this cheerfully excludes games like Charlton away and b) that we haven't been in the playoffs at all.

Also...Peterborough are 7 goals better off than us, so if they get draw Saturday they need to loose to Pompey by at least 2/3 I reckon - we then need to beat shrewd by 2/3 as well. Then I should think we will need a couple of goals at least more than Peterborough get in last game

I agree with most of this. However, I do think that for every Charlton game there have been 3 or 4 Walsall away results.

in the end we are probably 1 result away
any of those games we should have won
Even another point may have made a very big difference

I’m feeling very philosophical about it all: didn’t expect play offs at start and still don’t. If we make it now it will be huge bonus; if not then it’s still been a very positive season and bodes well for next as hopefully Robins already knows who we are likely to lose/keep and consequently has players in mind. Important next season to start strong and keep in playoffs for whole season

Soccerstats has us scoring 10 goals after the 81st min with 8 conceded. Doesn't show which games thought.

Most revealing stat is that no team has let in fewer first half goals than us. 14 first half goals conceded v 37 second half!

I'm incredibly bored and was also just on soccerstats looking at late goals we've scored :emoji_joy: as far as I can see there are 8 that earned us a result, as opposed to being a consolation or when we were already winning:

Chaplin (pen) v Oxford A (2-1) 81
Baka x 2 v Charlton A (2-1) - 81, 90+
Chaplin v Wycombe H (1-0) 82
Jones v Southend A (2-1) 90+
Doyle v Accrington H (1-1) 87
Chaplin v Peterborough H (1-1) 90+
Bayliss v Charlton H (2-1) 89

Oh for fucks sake, if you think I'm going to arse around finding all the goals that have cost us as well...then...well...sadly you'd be right. *zips up anorak* Same applies, only result-changing goals:

Dales v Scunthorpe H (2-1) 81
Toney v Peterborough H (1-1) 90+ (where Chaplin equalised straight away)
Leahy x 2 v Walsall A (2-1) 90+ x 2
Eaves (pen) v Gillingham H (1-1) 90+
Pitman v Portsmouth A (2-1) 83

Thank you, I do apologise for taking liberties and time out of your obviously busy day...however...I'm not saying you're Arthur Job, but you did miss one...

Reed v Peterboro A (1-2) 90+ 8

Found a nice visual here actually - Coventry City FC - Results, Stats, Squad, Fixtures | FootyStats :emoji_grimacing:

Edit: Genuine apologies! As you did say result-changing goals. That'll teach me to try and be a smart arse!

Ahh but we won v Peterborough away so it didn't change the result I was just picking out goals (in both posts) that actually changed the outcome. If I can take the time to do this at least take the time to read my post properly!

Liking that link though, really good way of looking at it :emoji_thumbsup:

I think it would be the Gillingham game that really stuffed us. Total domination of the first half and then a cock up to concede a last minute penalty. Two points thrown away.

I'd agree but throw the Walsall game in there as well. Both games were thrown away after the 90th minute, all 3 goals totally avoidable (I still shudder at the thought of that Walsall game). Extra 5 points puts us level with Donny
