Now that Sheaf is back to full fitness a midfield 3 of him Grimes and Rudoni is outstanding. I did worry that Sheaf and Grimes might be too similar but they blend so well.

Torp, Eccles, Allen all played key roles and done well too this season, but these three today were where we ran it. Great effort, great quality.

And Sheaf didn't do his customary giving the ball away passes, very good today but once again the rspca are after him for trying to hit pigeons flying over the stadium

The midfield is probably the strongest part of the team. The presence of Grimes has liberated Sheaf to an extent, it’s just a pity Torp is out as he also was starting to shine.

Yep that's his shooting I'm afraid. Premiership player with L2 shooting ability.

*edit: hopefully the right mentor in Lampard of all people to hopefully change that.

Got passed through a few times but aziz is a good player

how the hell Carrick didn’t get that team to perform is bizarre

Probably the same why Frank didn't get our team performing against Derby Plymouth Luton etc

Thought he was the worse of the 3.
Not that he was bad, good work rate, but not as good as the other 2.

Thing is he sold his star player in January, so Gibson only has himself to blame in this too.

That's fair, but all were good, orobaby 8/8.5/9 in the order Sheaf, Grimes, Rudoni.

I thought Sheaf was the engine tbf. Grimes so much time on the ball, Sheaf covering the ground and driving the tempo, Rudi shear quality. It's the way they complement each other I like the best.

Sheaf looks miles better not sitting and when he can go and nip into tackles.

Agree, although I guess it was needed more before we had Grimes. He'd be a natural 8 if he could hit the target.

Grimes, Sheaf, Rudoni, Eccles, Torp, Allen. At one point this year we were threadbare there. Now it’s our strength. Going into games with Rudoni, Sheaf and Grimes gives us a chance v anyone

Sheaf looked like a man possessed at times today, he is getting up to the match fitness levels of the other two and with them all firing there can’t be many better midfields outside the top flight.

It’s a team of good individuals that don’t necessarily complement one another. They’ve got some cracking players on their day.

Lampard complimented his workrate in the post match chat I think.

Tom Cannon at Sheff Utd hasn’t done much better, another shocking miss from him yesterday.

Will be a shame if Sheaf goes this summer as I’d love to see a whole season of this midfield (well 2/3 of a season with Sheafs injury record)

Compliments during the game are really important.
Yesterday I head Sheaf tell Rudi how white his teeth were. I heard Grimes ask Thomas if his shorts made his arse look big (Thomas replied, no you look perfect). And Saka told MVE how good his throw ins are!
Great compliments! Gotta love it!

Our midfield, good in attack but boy were we open.

I'd hesitate to include Rudi as a midfield option he generally plays way more advanced, we basically play 4-4-2.

I think playing Rudi as a lone 9 and bringing in Allen would work, especially away from home.

I think he's playing safe, he doesn't look fully match fit physically and possibly mentally imo.

No offence intended and I hope none is taken.

I think now that the weight of "best midfielder at the club" has been lifted from him, Sheaf has been playing with a lot more freedom. Less prone to errors and wayward passes since he's been back.

Grimes and Rudoni are the best midfielders now, and Sheaf has revelled with that knowledge, I think. They all have their own roles and they all played them to perfection yesterday.

Hope Sheaf can stay fit now.

Suspect he's too busy stabbing his Ben Sheaf voodoo doll to reply
