Burton are a totally different model to us on the pitch, they are a established team and been together for a few seasons. No Hero's in there team just 11 players playing for each other Many of them come from lower leagues so enjoying this moment in there careers.
A solid base was built over a few seasons.

And that's the difference between really having a two year plan and just saying you have and then filling the team with loans.

Yes correct, prior to that they had 3 failed play off attempts. They lost there key striker Adam Mcgurk also to Portsmouth in the summer also, but the key is the stability of there squad and they have built it over last few seasons.
League one and two are not worlds apart anymore.

Well that shows the stability. Three failed play-off attempts, then promotion and now looking very much like promotion again.

We are a basket case unfortunately.

I know our League One rivals have failed over the past few seasons, but the likes of Sheff Utd and Peterborough tend to be challenging up the top end every year.

Sheff Utd last 3 seasons, 5th, 7th, 5th. Peterborough 9th, 6th.

Looks probable for us that we might well end up between 12th-15th. We are just in a perpetual sea of mediocrity and worse.

No consistency.

Or maybe just consistently bad.

Tho sheff Utd seem to be there or there abouts they are a club who are very unstable with there management because of there expectation and a fair budget, big names, searching for the return to the championship .
Id rather us use Peterborough's model and sign some young exciting non league talents with some proven, experienced league players to compliment to squad all with a maximum age of 30 to take the club forwards.

As I have said all along, we need the foundation of our own players in the key roles if possible, with loans coming in to complement that and add to our quality.

Having Armstrong and Murphy here was always a big worry because you knew it would be for one season only and we would have to start again.

Much rather we had our own striker, such as Scunthorpe have down with Paddy Madden.

Be far too much uncertainty over Adam Armstrong this year, with us constantly wondering if he would be going back.

Finding another 20 goal a season striker next season is a major task for Tony Mowbray in the summer.

Totally agree, but I think TM was really restricted for this season and had to go down the loans route.
As we all know the scouting network was a issue, no info or anything logged on suitable players. It's was too much of a risk to sign players on contracts that you no nothing really on, with a loan there is a element of a safety net. If it don't work out, they return to there parent club. System has its positives but also the negatives.
Now 12 months on we should have info on players suitable for every position in majority of the leagues and a short list already in place to go and get be it a free transfer or small fee. Sure we're gonna have loans again but hopefully to supplement the team not the core.
Look at izale McLeod saga last summer, we could of shelled out over 300k for a player who's only gone on to score 10 goals in 34 games in league 2
Hoping for a better summer of recruitment this time around from TM, JC, and MV.

Ajose was almost a done deal I believe from what TM said before Swindon game. Issues getting him out his contract at Leeds broke the deal and put it beyond us.
Plenty of up and coming players available in the summer tho, let's hope a deal can be done.

Yes. A nice mahogany one with lockable drawers would be nice.
