Right,

Now the dust has settled we can look at where we are.

Our rise up the leagues we had Doyle as skipper then Kelly (but in practical terms Fadz)

Older pros who had been about and did the skipper stuff:

Rallied players
Settled players
Organised defensive walls from set plays
Got stuck in when our younger / less bulky players got bullied
Got in the Ref’s ears

Robins’ appointment of Sheaf was a baffling decision - he’s not a skipper type. I can’t see that he’s done any of the above criteria

Obviously, swapping / stripping a bloke of the armband mid season is not going to be good for morale - so Frank has stuck by.

We need a leader on the pitch.

Within our current team, I can only see Bidwell, Grimes or at a push Rudoni.

Anyone else?

It will quite obviously be Grimes next season and I think that’s fine?

If Sheaf stays (which I think he will), then can't see Frank changing it

Sheaf does some of those things.

Just because he's not screaming in the refs face doesn't mean he isn't a good captain.

Grimes seems the obvious choice, Kitching as VC if he's still in the team.

100% grimes

the way Rudi held up MVE's chin was potential vice captain material
(this is all if sheaf goes theres no way frank will drop his captaincy)

Based on current squad it has to be Kitching. Strong, aggressive, never backs down, puts his body on the line, leads by example, willing to do the nasty stuff. I called for it at the start of last year, we look so much better defensively with him in the side.

Feels obvious it will be Grimes, and seeing as he'll probably play every game makes sense, seems more of a leader than Sheaf

Should be and I think will be Grimes as Captain. Kitchen or Eccles as vice captain

Think it will be Kitching , Grimes doesn't seem to shout or direct players

For me, captain should either be a CM or CB. At the moment, I’d consider Grimes or Thomas / Kitching but I’ll hold judgement until I see how the squad is shaped

My vote is unquestionably for Grimes. Plus Lampard admitted to using Grines as a floor general to get his take on the game.

I can't see it being anyone but Grimes. He's positioned in the middle of everything, has the experience and is a good age, rarely/never injured (touch wood), Lampard's first signing so he clearly has the backing.

Unless we bring someone in pretty sure it will be Grimes. What other candidate is likely to play as many games?

Have a feeling the only reason he wasn't immediately made captain was in case it caused upset in the dressing room.

Grimes or Kitching for me as a Cap/VC situation.
Or F it and give it to Collins

We can't persist with Sheaf as captain next season.

One of Grimes, Thomas or Kitch for me.

I think it will be Grimes, Kitchin is not guaranteed a place week in week out.

Not convinced Grimes offers anything more as a captain that Sheaf. Doesn't scream 'leader' on or off the pitch. Kitching or a new signing for me.

Other than the start of Lampard's tenure and injury, he's been ever present in the side?

I’m not sure Kitching is mature enough. Seems to get a bit petulant at times. Maybe in a couple of years.

Kitching is the classic example of a captain, but like some have said he can be ill disciplined.

Grimes seems the safe choice.

Wouldnt mind him IF he could contain himself from making absolutely horrendous challenges...! Not sure how he can raise others with some of the nonsesical stuff he does

I wouldn't be surprised if FL will be looking for an experienced central defender who will fill the captain role
