Reading the "happy " thread I was thinking of other characters from the old Sky Blue days. After going up with the old man for a few tears I ventured as snotty 16 year old into the covered end, away games and the new West End in the first years of the first division. One character was a guy known as Reg or little Reg. He used to get on the shoulders of fans and with his town cryer type voice shout "give us a c, give us an o and so on until Coventry was spelt out. There were two others who used to put their scarves around their heads turban style and just before kick-off get on the running track or a wall and do a hocus pokus routine getting fans whooping and wailing
Then there were two brothers Stan and Ollie, I kid you not, went everywhere and lived and worked on some farm way out Corley way and had to walk to the Shepherd and Shepherdess to get a bus, which meant after night away games they would often walk from Pool Meadow to outer Corley.
Then there were the coppers, some real brutes too. There was a sergeant with a blonde handlebar moustache used to wear leather gauntlet type gloves and had a hatred of cockneys especially Chelsea fans, can't think of his name though, but the king copper was a brute of a man, Reg Jenkins, 6 feet high, six feet wide and hated hooligans, I have witnessed this bloke, truncheon in hand laying out fighting fans one after another, away fans where frit to death of him. Anyone out there remember him or others
