Some Saturday morning fun.

The year is 2005 - Paul Fletcher has just been appointed managing director and you have been tasked with getting Coventry City promoted by the end of the 2007/2008 season - If you fail the consequences for Coventry City football club could be disastrous (and you're a worse manager than Adams and Dowie). Pick the team which is going to get us promoted (I have purposely excluded players taken on loan during that period & players retired by the 2007/2008 season). Good luck!!!:

GK

Clayton Ince
Jonathan Tuffey
Rafael González-Robles
Andy Marshall
Dimitrios Konstantopoulos
Danny Ireland

DF

Andrew Whing
Marcus Hall
Rob Page
Matt Heath
Stuart Giddings
Richard Shaw
Paul Watson
Ryan Lynch
Ben Turner
Elliott Ward
Mikkel Bischoff
Colin Hawkins
Che Bunce
Arjan De Zeeuw
Daniel Fox
David McNamee
Scott Dann
Gary Borrowdale

MF

Stephen Hughes
Michael Doyle
Claus Bech Jørgensen
Isaac Osbourne
Neil Wood
Kevin Thornton
Luke Webb
Liam Davis
Wayne Andrews
Chris Birchall
Khalilou Fadiga
Jay Tabb
Don Hutchison
Colin Cameron
Faysal El Idrissi
Liam Davis
Lee Hildreth
Ellery Cairo
Julian Gray
Michael Hughes

FW

Dele Adebola
Gary McSheffrey
James Scowcroft
Andy Morrell
Stern John
Youssef Sofiane
Craig Reid
Kevin Kyle
Leon McKenzie
Michael Mifsud
Leon Best
Robbie Simpson
Donovan Simmonds

Started trying to do this but no way is there the ability in that squad to get promoted out of champ!

You couldn't make a side good enough for promotion out of that lot, they weren't all at the club at the same time and they all peaked at different times. For example Turners peak was 3-4 years after your 2007/08 target season. But if we're going to choose the best players out of that (based on performances for us in that period).

Marshall
Mcnamee
Ward
Dann
Fox
Scowcroft
Doyle
Tabb
Mcsheffrey
Adebola
Mifsud.

Best's peak 2009/10. Not good enough for promotion.

Some really good players there - only the midfield looks week. Dann, fox, best, turner were all capable of playing in the top flight

I'd start at the basics. Foster a positive relationship with ACL. Buy the half share off Alan Higgs being mindful that food and beverage income could become really important to the management team.

Speak to the fans, hold forums telling them we are here to stay and that we want to progress with them.

Invest in players of Dennis Wise ilke to get the young people in shape. And then I would keep the home grown talent.

Give it a rest and play along with OPs thread?! Plenty of other threads to go down the same 'what we should've done' path....

What's the net value of that lot?

I was thinking of selling them all and developing the youth policy

Or sell them all and use the money on endless court cases that you have no hope of winning and if you win there is no prize at the end of it.

Dennis Wise?

Better than some on your list.

BTW. But that may be going off topic?
