It sounds like the club has the option of extension with all of the players on 1 year contracts. It's more than likely to make sure they don't end up burdening the wage bill if they're no good, i.e Barton
Johnson and Miller have both had injury problems in the last 12-18 months and Pugh is 31, therefore there's a risk we could have landed 2 david bells and a Kilbane
Is low risk for the club, and if they stay for enough and play enough they will automatically trigger an extension.

As I said on Twitter just now, the players we have signed so far:
- Danny Swanson (2 Year)
- Shaun Murphy (1 Year)
- Jim O'Brien (1 Year, option of a second)
- Danny Pugh (1 Year, option of a second)
- Reda Johnson (1 Year, option of a second)
I think will be very dependent on the success this season as to whether most players are retained next season.

If we stay at Northampton for the planned 3 to 5 years we won't be able to afford the wages of these players unless we sell more players under the FFP rules.
The idea of only giving players a 1 year contract as our club could be liquidated don't stand up to reason. Our club would be gone so all contracts would be cancelled.
1 year contracts are a good idea as they solve problems like getting players in that end up being rubbish. Downside is that you end up getting a 'Moussa' and then don't get any benefit from it when his contract is up.
