Armstrong was a coup for us at this level as was Murphy, be happy and surprised if we get anything near them two.
If it is then TM will have signed 3 new strikers and re-signed Tudgay so 4.
If none of them can score, we can just blame SISU.
I doubt we'll have more than 4 strikers in the squad, so with McBean that would be 3 by my count (Tudgay and Sordell, excluding G Thomas who TM obviously regards as a kid not ready to be counted as an option as a regular senior starter). Are you counting Kwame Thomas? I'd thought he was going to be used mostly as a winger? I guess these days attacking midfielders and strikers are becoming interchangeable.
My own view was that you need 2 players for every position, so if you plan to play a 442 over the season you know you need:
2 keepers
2 RBs
4 CBs
2 LBs
4 CMs
2 RWs
2LWs
4 strikers/ centre forwards.
So how are we doing with that?
2 keepers - RCC, Burge - sorted
2 RBs - Ricketts, 1 more RB needed
4 CBs - Willis, Turnbull (excluding Harries who is a kid), 2 more CBs needed
2 LBs - Stokes and Haynes - sorted
4 CMs - Vlad, Rose, McCann - 1 more CM needed
2 RWs - Reid, Lameiras - sorted
2LWs - Thomas, Jones - sorted
4 strikers/centre forwards - Sordell, Tudgay (excluding Thomas who is a kid), 2 more CFs needed
We assume that the Finn and McBean will join, so that means we need:
1) 1 defender who can play centre back and/or right back
2) a solid centre back
3) another centre midfielder (excluding the very young Stevenson and the ineffective Finch, here)
4) 1 more striker
I have excluded Page from this as he covers the LB option too, but if he can play either RB or CB then you can remove the requirement above for one of those players. I'm not counting the likes of Spence of the Kelly-Evans twins as senior squad members either.
I still think we could see about 6 players brought in. We need two or three more strikers. McBean is one for the development squad. Likewise Kane Smith although I'd like to see us take him. Tudgay is basically a coach and I cant envisage Mowbray sees him playing 10 games.
I highly doubt that we'd loan a player like McBean to play in the youth team. Smith would probably be thrown straight in, too because our only RB is Ricketts who may well be needed as a CB.
As for Tuddy, I agree he's going to be used more as Fergie used to throw in Sheringham at times, or Ireland with Niall Quinn, as in bring on an experienced head to calm things down and lead by example. I reckon he'll play more than you think, though, and with 4 strikers on the books including Tuddy and McBean we won't be signing any more unless he sacks of Kwame like he did with Elford-Alliyou last season.
Give it a couple of weeks and we'll back to 4-at-the-back, so many times you see times starting out with three at the back, it never lasts.But we aren't playing with a RB...

We won't go 442 anyway, mowbray doesn't like that formation, which is a shame we probably now have the players that can play and would probably excel in that formation.
He'll probably go back to the 4231 at some stage
