...and that was to give Wilson a run in the team at the start of last season. He's been living off that ever since and it's time it stopped.
Please don't tell me he's given youth a chance... that was the remit he was given and he has had little alternative. Can anyone tell me what else the man has got right?

Lets be honest that was probably luck on his part, Clarke and Wilson were our only strikers going into the season.

He sold McDonald when he could've kept him and bought in Manset.

i know things are bad at the mo but at least give Pressley credit where it's due.

Who else could have played other than Wilson? Surely anyone watching training could have told us that Wilson was better than Manset & Mcdonald? (apart from Dongle).

He said he sold Mcdonald as he planned to play 1 upfront though and then changed his mind.

Lets be thankful he didn't know what he was doing then either as otherwise we could have ended up with a situation where Mcdonald was holding back Wilsons development.

I'll be perfectly honest. I refreshed the home screen, saw the title of this thread, then when for a quick pee. During that time I pondered the title of thread, and could only thing of 1.

I then click into the thread, and the OP is exactly what was the only thought I had.

My next question is, does that credit go to SP, or did he have no other choice?

He managed to stop a team who were playing in front of crowds of 1.5k away from home at home who were also deducted 10 points up. Despite having his best player sold midway through and having NO recognised strikers at one point.

Give the bloke some credit. He's a good man and doesn't deserve the petty bitchiness imo.

I agree with you to some extent but he can't live off last season forever. He did a tremendous job last season but can you really see him keeping us up at the moment? I get the impression he has already lost the dressing room. Once that happens there is no way back for a manager. I'm not sure I would describe the anger at our recent form as petty bitchiness.

come off it ! When has this site been shy of handing out petty bitchy comments ? Wasn't Thorn fat ,idle lazy and drank too much ? What they do have in common is the reason they were appointed . Thorn , inexperienced in the role ,but knew the players, wouldn't command the salary of an accredited manager . Presley came to the interview with promises of using the youth team to fill the gaps of unsigned players. Free players have not done the business so, let's play the kids . All right if they are good enough but such a knock back if there not ready. The biggest sin is that they are in the shop window for our owners to capitalise on ! These young lads should be slowly fed into a successful side and KEPT as the future of the club ,not used to keep a crock team afloat.

Didn't Wilson getting in the team coincide with two things

1) Wilson had returned from long term injury
2) there was no one else and he had to play him?

As I understand it previous coaching staff and managers had high hopes for Wilson, what held him back was his injuries. Not sure there was any great input from SP in his development other than partnering him with Clarke, but happy to be corrected

The original plan Pressley had was one up front, but he changed it to a bog standard 4-4-2 to fit with the players he had (i.e. two decent strikers).

Curious he showed flexibility in that last season...

It is easy to think that the more you tell SP something is wrong the more he digs his heels in that he is right ........ think he needs to step back take a breath and have a rethink. Nothing wrong with flexibility or even saying lets do it a different way.

He may not be doing fantastically well but you do have to factor in how his hands have been tied by the club wanting/needing to reduce the wage bill. With the loss of Clarke, Wilson, Moussa and Baker that's around 80 goals lost from last season and the hardest thing to get in football are goalscorers, also that is a loss of pace in the team which is a fantastic asset at this level of football. Someone scoring regularly is worth far more than the goals as it gives the rest of the team confidence so helps improve their general level of play. Add to this the loss of an experienced keeper and it is not a surprise that we are struggling.

He seemed determined to change it last season too, seemed to be looking for an excuse.

I know the defence wasn't fantastic, but a side that looked to score goals, with the risks that went with it, was a breath of fresh air. He seems to struggle with 'flair' players such as Moussa too, who can turn a game but do bugger all for the other 85 minutes,

Somewhere there's a happy compromise to be had, let's hope he finds it!

He did however sign us a stream of useless backups in Manset, Slager, the Swansea guy for 10 minutes...

Not in the Pressley OUT camp as manager changes tend to just paper over the cracks. As mentioned here and elsewhere however, you have to question the judgement of whoever chooses the players. Sure, we have a limited budget, but we don't seem to use it well either.

All the loan signings we had cluttering the place the end of last season (Prutton, Robinson etc) would have probably been better off saving the cash and not having full-stop, after all.
