On this day 10 years ago a crowd of just over 8,000 saw The Sky Blues go down 1-0 at home to Notts County. City side was
Allsopp
Haynes Martin Webster Willis
Finch Barton Fleck O'Brien
Madine Nouble
Used Subs: Phillips and Swanson

To think it this was 10 years ago! A lot of stuff has happened since. Mostly good!
And we are worrying about whether we get Lampard, Van Nistelrooy or the current England manager.

Not all bad I suppose!

Madine turned out decent enough but we got him in too early I think

Jack Finch came through the academy made over 10 appearances that year can't remember exactly how many.

He was dog shit, and I know he ended up at Brackley town a couple years after us I imagine he didn't go much higher than that after either.

My memory of Finch is him coming on in the latter stages of a game against Wycombe to man mark Akinfenwa!

2 pound a pint in the cherry tree, easy parking, nice stroll to the ground and then get to choose where you sit. Was a decent day out!

Ah, he's coming back to me now! He obviously had enough talent to get a taste of League football, and I think many people grossly underestimate what a phenomenal achievement that is in itself.

But like so many youth players, he must then have fallen a little short of the extreme demands. Let's not insult him, as I suspect few if any posters on here can claim to have ever got close to that level. Leaving aside all the current first team squad members who frequent these pages of course

I don't think he did it very much felt like needs must. Fair play to him he's better than 99% of people but he never showed anything worth a place in a league one team and I don't think it's insulting to say that tbf.

That's fairer. I based what I said on two words you used

I didn’t realise we still had Madine as late as that.
Didn’t Coleman sign him?

It was his second spell here on loan. The first one was 5 years previously.

Yeah maybe slightly strongly worded, think it was indicative of where we were at as a club (he wasn't he only player and he gave it his best which is all you can ask for)

I was more surprised we had O’Brien as early as that! I only really remember him as part of “that” Joe Cole, Maddison, Armstrong season which would’ve been two seasons later.

I always thought he was old in that team so I find it mad that he’s still playing in league 1 now (ironically with that days opponents, Notts)

Completely forgot we had Madine for a second time.

A lot of players in that team we had high hopes for. Barton and Flack came with promise.

Really liked O'Brien.

Don't think I've ever watched another City player in my 40+ years with worse positional sense than Jim O'Brien , what a terrible player he was

And a Week before 10 years ago today:

Coventry City 1-2 Worcester City

Sean Geddes scores twice as non-league Worcester City pull off a shock FA Cup first round win against 1987 winners Coventry City.

Worcester were a horrible team and that was one of the worst home game experiences. It was just shite

Who were the non league we beat a season or so later who had the horrible fans?

I always liked Jim O’Brien, his workrate, awareness, fitness and the ability to score at least 1 worldie per season.

That one against Barnsley was sublime.

We played Maidstone but we played someone else in round either before or after and I think it may have been them rather than maidstone

Just remember it was Boreham Wood, we dealt with them 3-0 which was nice given they had some pricks as fans pre game.

Didnt realise it was them even though I was there! There's a lad who works in our Liverpool branch who stewards at Everton and he said they were the worse fans he'd had to deal with when they played in the cup at Goodison.

Loads of trouble between themselves. They pull from a few different London clubs on a big day out apparently.

The Kidderminster fans strangely morphed into Wolves on the bus back to town.

Most non league clubs fans are fans of bigger clubs I'd imagine
