Just started on ITV4 the big match showing Liverpool v Ipswich and the Sky Blues V Man City in 1983 at Highfield Road.
Commentator states we are challenging for a European place.

God take me back there now. When football was a true working mans game. They look like Sunday league players but play better than the crap we see today. And you can pass back to the keeper...... Brilliant !

It's odd to think that football was like that back then. Seems like a lifetime ago. Everything is much more sophisticated now. And poorer for it. I miss HR.

Nail on the head torch. It was the lack of sophistication that made it so attractive. And although the players still earned decent money it wasn't so much as to completely alienate them from us

Portsmouth did us over there selling him on to ac Milan. Gerry Francis, great player considering he looked like he should be playing for a pub side! Passing and movement, it's like an acid trip!

I'd forgotten about "Big" Jim Melrose too. He looked better than I remembered.

I know what you mean Macca. I still really look forward to match days, but things did seem more exciting in those days. I suppose it is a youth thing. I was 17 when that match was played and it was a whole day thing. Getting the bus to Leam, getting the train to Cov, etc.
