To be clear it will never happen but...

His Dad is from London and he was born there so was entirely possible, until......

(I did not know this till I looked it up) He made his full international debut for Sweden on 12 January 2023, appearing in the second half as a replacement for Jacob Widell Zetterström in a friendly 2–1 win against Iceland.

However, a switch may still be possible even if they have played competitively at senior level under Article 9 of FIFA if....
  1. the player held the nationality of their new association at the time of their first official appearance for their first national team.
  2. the player played in no more than three competitive senior games before the age of 21.
  3. the player has not played in the final stage of an official tournament such as the World Cup, European Championship, Copa America etc.
  4. at least three years have passed since the player's last senior appearance for their previous national team.

Perfect timing. Dovin starts knocking on the door by November, which should in theory up Rushworth's game.

Will still likely be a few months before he's even considered for actual game time.

Any news on him? Is he gonna be back for the fa cup game? Wanna see him play again especially if we might need him to start next season if rushworth deal can't become permanent.

Dovin was our #1 keeper and getting plenty of plaudits...the future looked genuinely bright for him, Cov, and Sweden.
A bizarre injury, which turned into an ACL, keeps him out for 9 months.
In the meantime, we loan in what turns out to be a fantastic replacement, with talks of trying to make things permanent.
Chances are he'll become #2 choice now, and if he's unhappy with that, will look for a transfer away.
It just shows you how fickle fate is, and why footballers often take the money option in their short career...one injury can hugely change the direction of your career.

There's no reason why he can't continue where he left off. If / when he is ready he will play in the cup, and may even get a few league appearances towards the end of the season if we are in a position to do that without too much risk.

Or if be bides his time and trains well, he could even dislodge Rushworth as number one if he puts in good performances

Some game time would make sense, especially if Rushworth is still a Brighton player at the end of this window, because if we haven't got an option to buy that probably means we won't get him, or at best it would mean we wouldn't be negotiating until the Summer. And anyway I doubt either keeper would be happy as a no.2

I’d argue he’s just as good if not better than Rushworth.

Dovin has certainly got better distribution as Rushworths is erratic.

That being said Rushworth’s cross taking and rushing out of his box is better than Dovins so it’s swings and roundabouts.

I think that Dovin has a higher ceiling and will defo improve. Whereas Rushworth is probably is at the height of his powers now.

I think people forget just how good Dovin was before he got injured. A lot were saying they could see him easily making the step up in league.

I look forward to welcoming him back and what a boost to the squad he will be

Dovin was looking really good before his injury. Think Rushworth shades it taking crosses at the moment.
Injuries are scary things for footballers, as some are never the same again. Goalkeepers usually less likely to lose their form.

I think we are all hoping that Brighton will just sell Rushworth to us at end of the season.. I think currently that's unlikely.

Secondly we are very lucky to have Dovin on the path to recovery, fighting to get his place back. Some on here were saying that he was destined to be pinched by a PL team, so hopefully he will go up with us and be successful.

Would be odd for him to play against Stoke given he hasn't he had a sniff at the bench, he would at least be back around it now and warming up before games etc to have a chance

Good to hear how head-screwed-on Lampard is.
What does Lampard say to you now? Do you talk a lot?
- No. We've talked a little here and there. But his focus is of course on the team. He is a very good coach and from my point of view, he always has a very big focus on the next game, says Dovin and continues:

"It doesn't feel like he's enjoying our victories that much. I can see that he is happy when we have won, but the next day the focus is on the next game. The team is doing well now and I think he has a lot to think about. His focus is where it should be and I have to take care of my part.

This is the problem, 2 great keepers, both young, both gonna want to push on in their careers, neither will really want to sit on the bench and be happy about it.

Obviously for the step up if we do go up it'll be an issue, but the shade that gets thrown at Wilson is unbelievable. Hes a capable, not great, but capable, Championship/L1 keeper. Hes been happy to sit and make up numbers, train, get time as and when. Never moans, never kicks up a fuss, great moral around the dressing room. Didnt even kick up.a stick sat on the bench watching Collins gift goals at the back end of last season, and fuck me did he have every right to do so.

Granted, if we had to rely on him as back up in the PL id worry, but for what he's offered us in the championship he's been great. I cant see either Dovin or Rushworth doing the job he's been asked of him since he's been here and take it as well. He wins golden glove one season, replaced by a new No1 the next. Still, happy to be a servant and help where he can.

We'll be hard pushed to find a better keeper (PL quality) that'll be as happy to do the job being asked of him and sit behind Dovin next season.

The thought of having Wilson anywhere near the squad next season IF we are promoted is a depressing thought. I’d rather coax 42 year old Ben Foster out of retirement and sit him on the bench instead.

Interesting interview.

If he's still experiencing pain in the knee, no need to rush him back for one cup game. Depending on the league situation there could be opportunities for him to get some mins at the end of the season.

Wilson isn't PL quality. He's not even a top championship keeper. OK at best in this league, been very lucky to get the opportunities he has with us. It's time for him to move on.

If Dovin comes back as the player he was I won't be unhappy, if we can't sign Rushworth, for him to resume his place as our number one. I think they are too good for either of them to accept being second choice.

Cheap 3rd choice? Who are you expecting another possible starter who would be happy to sit in the reserves?

They are both young for a GK. Only one of them is coming back from a long injury. Rushworth is shaping up to be an excellent GK. If Dovin takes off from where he left he is exactly the same. Nobody has a crystal ball that works. If they did they would win the lottery every week instead of conning people out of a tenner a time.

IIRC the Dovin injury came from his distribution or lack of it. There's a good chance it will play on his mind when he comes back.

It came from him recieving a sideways pass from I think Thomas, and Campbell continuing his press and Dovin chopping the ball the other way and getting taken out

I agree on Wilson but being 3rd choice isn’t too outrageous, Scott Carson was Man City’s 3rd choice and he’s massively behind various 1st and second choice GKs.

Frankly speaking, a 3rd choice GK has got to accept that they’re basically never going to get minutes.
