Didn’t say I have a problem with Wilson, because I don’t. Thought he was harshly treated last year.

Don’t think Dovin deserved to be dropped. Won’t have done his confidence any favours.

Is there another, different vid3o of that own goal? All I can see for first split second is the ball coming in hitting feet then a moment later in the goal. Couldn't tell if it was a good or bad backpass? Or how fast the pass was?

It did look quite a heavy pass back to be fair

My initial reaction too but cannot get a good look in on that clip, oh well.
Mistakes happen one way or the other, just get them all shaken out on international duty so they don't pop up in league game.

Just saw the howler, what have we done to this lads confidence already

I wonder if he regrets signing for us

It's not the first howler he's made like this.

I put the first one down as a freak accident, but twice probably isnt a coincidence.

He can still come good as even some top keepers have the odd clanger in them but given our ability to regress keepers, I'm a bit worried about this one.

I really like Dovin. I'm sure though when players are dropped from the first team, there are supportive conversations held and this is where the value of good management and coaching comes into it. I doubt players find out on the day nor whether it comes as a shock, it will likely be done with support and reasoning, and probably a plan to work on to help them bridge the gap back into the first team. If done properly, while its possible that confidence takes a knock, ultimately it could drive up motivation.

It was a weird back pass tbf but I’m not quite sure what Dovin is doing… It’s like he’s looking around the stadium or not watching the ball or something, should be a routine touch and control of the ball.

Although it’s funny I don’t think this means Dovin is suddenly worse than Wilson, it’s just something that’s out of the blue and surely won’t be happening again. If a shot was coming at our goal then I’d 100% rather have Dovin as keeper than Wilson (albeit it’s a small sample size of games for Dovin so far).

That Sheffield Wednesday goal the other night was typical of Wilson on a bad day, near post, does nothing other than flail around and then fall backwards like it was impossible to stop. Wilson reminds me of one of those garage forecourt inflatable doll things that flap around in the air

I’m sure I saw a tweet from CCFC last night saying the goal was due to a terrible back pass but seems to have been deleted…

Was this one Robins' fault for dropping him for Wilson and knocking his confidence?

Is Wilson Derangement Syndrome what you call wanting to start a keeper who we've now signed two replacements for?

Anyway, couldn't care less what Dovin does for Sweden U21s, it's a terrible back pass too. He should be starting vs Preston.

You have just given a live example with your post. literally.

'It was a bad backpass' and 'couldn't care less what he does for Sweden'. It doesn't surprise me but it is hilarious and bordering delusional.

There would be threads pages long if it had been Wilson. Then again, we know when Dovin concedes a goal it is never his fault, even if he does miss-kick it into his own net, apparently.

To be fair it was shite the goal and it looks like a total lapse in concretion.

But he’s a young keeper developing and you expect mistakes to be made and for coaches to help them cut them out.

On Wilson, his attitude is amazing and he makes a great role model for Dovin. However if Dovin is going to improve and cut these out of his game (and it’s only twice tbf) he needs to start games. U21 matches won’t help him or his confidence.

Hope he’s back in for Preston but with a lack of leaders in the defence understand why Ben’s there.

Pick Ford made a genuine error last night that nearly resulted in a goal (saved by some athletic defending).
You know if someone offered me Pickford...I would take him even with that error last night!

I don't really think anyone can even know for sure that he is, but I would very much like to find out. If it turns out he isn't, it's probably the worst value for money signing we've ever made.

A mistake yes, but a basic rule for a defender when making a pass back to keeper is pass it wide of the goal so this sort of thing can't happen.

A clusterfuck, from both parts.

We were told to pass back to the side of the goal to prevent exactly this happening, the worst you give away is a corner if the keeper cocks up

This is the second time that we are aware of him making a similar howler when he thought the penalty spot was the ball. He clearly lacks fo us and concentration during a game like hes in his own little world. Dont think it will be long before we see the same mistake with him in a league game

It was Dovin’s error obviously but as a defender you should never be hitting a pass like that, with force, bouncing and directly at your goal. It’s basics.

And yeah, I wouldn't factor international performances in at all really. Especially youth teams.

You seem determined to defend Robins to the death on this one.

The Puma Orbita EFL match ball used in the championship has bright patterns all over it and definitely doesn't look like a penalty spot...so we should be okay there, but as for the back pass issues , they could pose more of a threat.

With our tendency to do this exact back pass it is a concern. Though I think across the team they are massively low in confidence, so being in and out of the team won't help. The lift in confidence was visible in every player when we went 1-0 up against Blackburn. We know and they know they can all play much better (Simms a prime example) but when confidence is low, mistakes like this will always creep in. Robins needs to pick his no. 1 and stick with him. Wilson for me is a more than capable no. 2.

Sure looks like the career of someone who would get capped by a reasonably decent European nation.
