Yeah, been saying for a while and provided quotes from Clough and Ferguson on the importance of having a top keeper.
It's been a continuous issue for us for large spells since Robins returned and every time it looks like we might have sorted it the incumbent goes to shit.

Is that a reflection on our goalkeeping coach?

I wouldn't know.
Obviously Marosi got that bad facial injury and Moore had some really serious personal issues by all accounts so maybe there's an element of bad luck but I wouldnt want to start with either of the current keepers as No 1.

We live in an era when clubs choose when to announce not based on when the player signs but when digital eye balls will be greatest. Thats why you see an increasing number of evening announcements ……

You have compared us against managers though who are at top sides. The reality is that below that you don't need a top keeper and the cost/benefit isn't as beneficial as other positions. Of course a top keeper helps, but you can be successful with a mediocre keeper.

In fact as I keep saying with this argument there is a huge dearth of top keepers in football at the moment.

Rotherham had a top keeper, still went down by 20 odd points. Granted we can’t have a keeper who enjoys throwing it in his own goal but we’re still lacking strength in depth in a number of outfield positions.

I mean I’d argue we only lack depth at RB and striker. A goalkeeper was priority

We lack it at left back, right back, striker, could use another CM and right footed CB also.

Absurd thing to say about the position with the single biggest influence and responsibility for preventing goals being conceded.

And all of those are a priority over a decent keeper? We have 2 left backs and 5 cm’s

Agreed. We’ve recruited really well. But the mania to get players in is something else. Trust in Robins. Trust in King. The track record is there - just need a big dollop of patience.

Not really. Spain won the Euros, I had to look up who their keeper was. Man City won the Prem, Ederson is not the best keeper in the league. Real Madrid won the CL with a backup playing for most of it.

The idea that you need a top keeper to succeed is a myth.

Don't disagree we're lacking elsewhere but for me, keeper is a priority.
And prime Buffon in goal wouldn't have kept Rotherham up.

Keepers also get more chance to look good playing for Rotherham, of course.

You cannot go into a season with that statistic hanging over you and expect to have a good one.To me I feel they will take so long to get used to their new possible scorers ways of playing the top half will be out of sight.
Watch them prove me wrong now.

Not just that - they play a thing called Tim ball or whatever it's called. It relies on being super fit and all out attack. They've lost most of their decent players, and any new/decent players will have to a) get used to the new system and b) get fit enough to play it (by all accounts it is an extreme style) &he other issue for them is that I assume Tim Walter's teams haven't had to play 50 odd matches (as per the Championship) so the Hull players my implode during the season - plus if it starts poorly, the mad owner may ditch him before it has any chance to succeed.

Well done for taking the post completely out of context for everything that I said

Why did we have the best defensive record in our history with Ben Wilson in goal? At the top level you need a top keeper like I have said. You don't need a top keeper to get promoted. As proven over the past however many years.
