What should we be looking at more experience or sticking to the business mould??

Definitely stick. A core of young players with potential for sell ons and then experience in key positions.

Correct and the way to go forward for the club with a more expierenced player thats adds to the mix without a big sell on fee.

We don't have the money to compete with the richer clubs. The only way we will succeed is to keep acquiring young players we can sell on.

Need both really, long term future is obviously the younger players but need those experienced older heads as well.

Definitely younger than 50... 40 at a push... The first yard may be in their head but they may need a mobility scooter for yards 2 to 100.

A mix of both, we need to follow the Brentford model as much as possible by unearthing gems from the lower leagues and selling them on for stupid money.

Ivan Toney will be in the Prem next season, either with Brentford or without. If without he will easily go for £30m

You don’t need to be old to be experienced, we’ve got a young squad, in last three seasons, we’ve been promoted, won a relegation battle that went to the last kick of the last game, and had a playoff campaign. Some experience that if you ask me .

I've gone slightly against the consensus in just saying younger but tbh, I'm assuming we sign James with that - think that already gives us enough 'older' heads

I think an average squad age of 23/24 is about right. O'Hare is 23 now as an example. I think for us, when trying to balance survival and sustainability, we should be looking at an experienced spine supplemented by younger players that we can pick up relatively cheaply that have already had a good breakthrough season somewhere else, to push the first team and further inflate their price tags. Throw in a few greener players that have maybe left top academys to go into the U23s for a season or two to see if we can develop them further.

I'd absolutely hate to become a team signing players like Jordan Rhodes on big salaries whose peak was 5 years go.

Our average age was 2nd youngest in the league at 25.3 (majority are around 27) but I'm comfortable with that.

I'd say signing 3 or 4 younger players, but with a few years experience in lower level football rather than from U23's for every older player with experience.

The older players' roles for me should be leaders and look after the younger players, coaching them through games.

But there's no reason why a 23/24 year old can't have a few years experience at the level and not be a leader as well. Just very rare to find them.

Last year when we played one of the early games there was a stat on the screen that we had approx 40 Champ games v our opponents who had about 600 odd. Most of those were Fadz and Jamie Allen. Any side we put out now is likely to be significantly higher and you could see we were learning as we went along and will be all the better for that experience this season. Therefore this time I wouldn't worry about ages as it depends what we're retaining, but in Fadz, Kelly and James if he stays they are key, so can work around with what's available.

I would definitely would strongly weight the squad additions at talented younger players. Obviously some balance is needed to an extent. I would definitely want James to be signed etc if that's possible.

I'm just worried about the lack of Jordan's in the squad, we've let a few go, and havnt replaced them, I hope MR has got a few on his wish list.

Jordan Graham from Gillingham? Ticks the Jordan requirement and also born in Cov meets another favourite requirement.

I didn't know anyone called Jordan when I was growing up, but you got me thinking there must be a Jordan XI out there, starting with Pickford in goal

Age is a strange one. If you are good enough, you are old enough (McCallum). 25 is young for a keeper but could be too late for a home grown or bought outfield player who cant make the starting 11 (Allen). We got Ohare because he had not broken into the Villa team at his age. Some players mature late (Godden) others go in the opposite direction (Kasta). Players seem to have a longer career now and it depends on the individual. I think Kelly and McFadz contracts reflect how long we think they will play to the required standard and their influence on the group. Young, old for us is a value for money thing. There will always be some old heads and a lot of gambles on young or youngish players we can hope to improve and make money on. So both I guess.
