Posted this somewhere before, but its jolly memories, and given the current climate on here a little break from the norm. Beats the shit out of beating on Sisu, ACL or CCC. Constant wash rinse n repeat. Not exceptional stories but they make me smile when i think about them.

Used to have a season ticket regularly as a kid, always in the Kop used to stand low down just to the right of the goal, had this goal in my head for decades, favourite all time, Mick Ferguson lobbing Clemence to help us beat liverpool 1-0, i allways remembered it as a fantastic lob from 25-30yds, bear in mind i was 11-12, long long time ago, saw it a couple of years ago on tv for the first time since, what a let down, a nice chip over the keeper from bout 12yds, but nothing like i remembered it, great goal to win a great game against probably the best team in europe at the time, just not the super goal i thought/remembered it as.

Another one, Kop again, always makes me smile when i think about it, its nothing when you think of the shit that goes on at games nowadays, but as an impresionable kid it was awesome. Les Sealey in goal, dont think he was having a particularly bad game, but this young indian/asian woman giving him none stop verbal abuse, your this, your that, do this, do that, calling him everything he really didnt want to be called, you know she just wouldnt shut up, ball was up the other end, she`s giving him another volley he half turned and shouted Shut your fucking mouth you stupid cow, guess what, she did, silent for the rest of the game. Like i said nothing major.

Tommy Hutchinson had a sports shop for a short time up everdon rd, near to my old nans, used to go in regular just to see one of my city heros. City playing norwich in a classic ding dong battle we won 5-4, stood right at the front in the west end ball went out for a corner and landed right in front of me, he strolled over picked it up, spotted me, asked how i was, and proceeded to tell me to keep out of trouble, again as a young kid what a feeling.

I upset/offended Viv Anderson, he was assistant at middlesboro at the time i think, sure we had them next game midweek, hes driving down swan lane car window half open, you know how slow the traffic was, I walked over and said we dont want your kind here, he just glared at me and put his window up and carried on. What i meant was dont come here scouting us out, it just came out all skew whiff and from the look n his face im sure what he heard was your the wrong colour and shouldnt be here. Felt a bit silly walking away realising what i had said and how it came out. What was meant to be a bit of jolly banter.............

Happy memories of normal games.
Wanna share yours, simple City memories that made you smile.

I forget the years-been to so many- supported for so long.

  • Dad and I used to always buy sweets etc from the sweet shop in Swan Lane- typically fruit pastilles(dad always had the 2nd one 'cause it was always the blackcurrant one).. anyway this one game for some god unknown reason we also bought Everton Mints- it was against Everton- we got hammered I cant recall the score-might have been 4 or 5 -0 or 1? we didnt buy Everton mints again ever!!

  • WBA- away in the cup- early 80's? WBA beat us- 5th round I think(maybe 6th).. Regis scored(for them).. anyway mayhem outside... running battles- I was young and to be honest bloody frightened- horse charges- batons at full thwack... ran down an alley in between houses and hid in someones shed!!! Dad came after me a few minutes later... we laughed once it was over!

  • 1/4 final FA Cup 87- stopped on the way home at services- stood over the urinals... me.. space dad(was what you did)... space gets filled with a gent clearly worse for wear from drink... as he relieves his bladder he falls forward.. bangs head on wall- quick as a flash he says "ouch"..... quickly followed with 'Pick that fucker outta the net' (referencing Keith Houch') as he said it a drunken smile came over his face as his head rested on the wall.. eyes closing drunken style.....we referenced that quote many times over the next few years.

  • David Speedie 'chips'- Brilliant.

  • Taking my son for his first game V Cardiff as a 7 year old. 2007.

  • 87 cup final.. Spurs fan shaking my hand after the game and saying "well done you desereved it"- Heartwarming

  • Dennis Wise- what a player he must have been- 13 games for the city- best time at the Ricoh without any doubt.

  • Spion Kop- some wag shouting out " if you hear a bell Oggy.. put your hands up you might catch it".

  • Train rides to and from Villa Park- never without incident...? (Cecil: 2 lovely black eyes) will live with me forever...

  • Sheff Utd- 1/4 final cup defeat- the longest journey home EVER!

  • Wimbledon away at Selhurst Park- Nuddy- won 2-0... what a day!!
more to follow...

The 5-0 win against Blackburn in '95; on a snowy pitch and an orange ball. A very good Blackburn side was taken apart and Shearer was livid.

Huckerby's United winner was euphoric though. As a single moment, one of the most memorable.

Did we really do these things in this lifetime?!?

Lol, Everton mints, beating them 4-1 at home to stay up, what a game what a feeling, think we had to win the last three, may be wrong, they came as champions and got made to look average, dont really think their hearts were in it, ours was, Regis hattirick if i remember right.

The blackburn game was awesome, the blackburn team just wernt interested, it was too cold for them :) They had the SAS, shaking and scared that day!

Oggy's goal against Wednesday

Dion's sneaky goal on the 'goal kick'

Just the atmosphere and pure elation when Moldovan put THAT goal in at villa

Friend getting kicked out of Wigan for throwing a pie at the linesman

Going to the same pub in Kegworth for every Derby and Nottingham games

Always going for a curry the night before an away day, the minibus used to stink!

Nuddy's hat trick at Anfield

just so many happy times...

Another one, midweek cup game against WBA. Tony Bloody Godden, must of had the game of his life, for a short arsed keeper he couldnt half move well, stopped so many efforts that should of been goals, huge gate ground was rocking, and that git was unbeatable even a bad backpass to him was saved ny the post.

Dont remember the score, time is about right, just remember that guy having a blinder!

Another vague memory, did the forest fans get the whole of the kop when they came as champions/euro champions, remember their fans all over the floodlight pylons?

One that nearly made me choke with laugher was when the referee tried to back heel the ball and fell over. Was it Paul Alcock; Highfield Road, mid-nineties?!? It's in this compilation after about 30 seconds:

So many memories.
My first game as a season ticket holder, I think 80-81 we beat man Utd 2-1 at home, in the Big T kit and the ground the first (badly designed) all seater.
Beating Sunderland (i hate Sunderland for so many reasons) 6-1 at home.
Beating Spurs 4-3 at home in the cup winning season, Cyrille scoring in the last minute.
The quarter final of the cup at Sheff Wed, my favourite game ever.
Obviously the Cup Win!
4-1 at Villa.
Steve Froggatts goal against Everton into the top Corner.
Robbie Keanes winner against Arsenal on Boxing Day in a 3-2 win.
Noel Whelans mazy run and goal against I think it was Southampton or Everton, not long after he joined us.
Huckerbys goal in the 3-2 win against Man Utd
and beating Chelsea at home when they had to wear our away kit

............... they are great memories.........how far we have fallen!

Fave games:
- 3-2 League Cup semi v West Ham. 2-0 down with 19 mins to go - Garry Thompson last minute winner (particularly after his calamtous OG for their second goal. Poor bloke was in tears I seem to remember
- 4-3 v Spurs in cup season
- Last game at HR (although mixed feeings obviously, mostly personal thinkgin of the old man)
- Quinn hat-trick at Arsenal first day of the season (mate sold his ticket to go shopping with his then grilfriend in Oxford St.)
- Winning at Villa for the first time - jumped on the bloke next to me in pure joy (at the goal!) - turned out to be copper who declared that he wished he could join in as he was a Cov fan
- Man Utd win with Huckerby winner, and CIty fans singing "can we play you every week" to the Utd fans outside as they skulked by
- Last and not least: People coming up to me at work the Monday after the cup final and shaking my hand to say well done, best final for years; including people I didn't know whjo found out I was a Cov fan (even the Northamptonians were happy, and they don't smile vdery often!)

This last point is the one that saddens me the most - be great to hold our heads up high again wouldn't it.
