I remember before that monstrosity was built! There was the old ABC Empire in Hertford St where we would go for the "tanner rush" on a Saturday morning! (Damn, I still remember the song we all had to sing at the start! )
We also had a choice between which "tanner rush" we should go to - there was one at the Gaumont Cinema aswell (the Odeon as it became).

Yep! The old Standard Cinema! I saw all three Clint Eastwood "Man with no name" films here - Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. If I remember right, you could get a cup of coffee during the interval, something that was a "bit posh" in those days! It then went on to become a casino. Don't know if it still is?

Yeah, we used to go there a lot in the 80s. I remember when they showed the two Thunderbirds films there back to back. Brilliant!
