I see that as being down to deals breaking down rather than the money not being there. It'll all come down to cashflow I expect. The way I see it, it was very telling in the summer that we didn't/couldn't get another centre half until somebody, Sheaf in the end, moved on. If the funds were there surely we'd have brought someone in earlier in the summer.
Yes many do but there must have more CHs available across Europe. If they were only looking at the two in the Championship (one wasn't available anyway) then they haven't been doing their jobs - and I don't really buy that! I think we probably got a good deal on Woolfie, that being said.I see that as being down to deals breaking down rather than the money not being there.
I sense our main target was Hughes and Woolf was the plan B. We also were putting bids in for other positions long before Sheaf left and for more than he went for.Yes many do but there must have more CHs available across Europe. Agree. Don't underestimate the effect of the Man Utd and Sunderland games in making the players even more determined this time.It feels different this season. Just looking at the determination of the players, they are hungry for it. The management team are hungry for it. The owner is hungry for it. We are winning games we would have drawn or lost in the past. Not just scraping wins either, but blowing teams out of the water
Perhaps. It's all about cash and whether the comings and goings can be met. We'll still be paying for most of the current squad I should think, with some money coming in the other way. It seems silly but Sheff Wed are probably a wealthy club on paper, with the ground and the fanbase, but they don't have the cashflow to pay the billsKing has attracted investment from somewhere is my strong hunch.
Yes, I've had this dream many times, this time I seem to be awake. It all feels a bit surreal and a bit too good to be true.
It'll come down to luck with injuries and whether we have the depth in the winter months.
No doubt. I don't think we'll increase the wage bill very much in Jan, there's probably room for another player just now.We might have to ride our fortune a bit in the meantime, but even if we have to use more squad players, we have seen despite what some think, that they can do a job.

And that players name? Gustavo Hamer.

Don't think we can afford the million pound bonus Chris Jones would demand fro trying to get him fit
I mean it would wreck the local economy trying to shut down every kebab shop within a 20 mile radiusDon't think we can afford the million pound bonus Chris Jones would demand fro trying to get him fit
If it happens we have a kebab shop party bottom of Leam.I mean it would wreck the local economy trying to shut down every kebab shop within a 20 mile radius
I’m reliably informed that the buffet in the city centre does all you can eat kebab. I can only assume Gus learned of this over the summer. If it happens we have a kebab shop party bottom of Leam.
Do you mean on here or generally? As I've not seen Hamer lauded anywhere outside of here this season. The trajectory of our two stars hasn't gone in tandem. One sitting at the top of the Prem but criticised a lot, the other at the bottom of the Championship but lauded.
But Hamer needs a bit more room than a lot of players...And that players name? Gustavo Hamer.
Nothing wrong with a wet dreamI just woke up, had a great dream that we beat Sheff Weds 5-0 Middlesborough lost and we are top of the league....didn't get to shag Kylie though woke up just before
Agree, very early days.
I don't expect the goal glut to continue at the levels it is currently but the perfirmance levels, clean sheets, work ethic and the fitness levels give me real hope that we can keep ourselves in and around the business end of the table all season.
I was at that game with my dad as we sat in the Main stand and Gibbo was on fire, however, it was in Div 1 and there were at least 10 better squads than ours. Fagan spoke nicely about us but that was because we had just thrashed his team. The difference is, and I say this knowing we have to be cautious, there are not 10 better squads in this league than ours. It's brilliant but whisper: it's still very early days.
Remember 1983 home against Liverpool, Gibson hat trick before HT, finished 4-0 and Fagan tipped us for the title. We finished 19th and avoided relegation by one place!
This train doesn't seem to be stopping.
I really think we can carry this on.
Remember meeting Mary Rand on it.Sky Blue Express.Who remembers that then.
Rudoni out. Torp out. EMC out. Eccles out. Yet we still turned the draws into big wins. It's so unreal. It'll come down to luck with injuries and whether we have the depth in the winter months.
It was often the way over the years that our first 11 was a match for anyone, especially at home, but they didn't play many games together and we didn't have the depth of the big clubs.I was at that game with my dad as we sat in the Main stand and Gibbo was on fire, however, it was in Div 1 and there were at least 10 better squads than ours. With our current success you cannot pinpoint one or two individuals as we can plainly see it is structure that is working and the players are buying into the plan. FL and his team are putting in place a very competitive system that suits are players, and hopefully it will continue.
I remember through all those years (90-95) before Big Ron came in. Used to love it when the bigger clubs came to HR (Liverpool, Spurs, Man U etc) as we'd always raise our game, and occasionally win.It was often the way over the years that our first 11 was a match for anyone, especially at home, but they didn't play many games together and we didn't have the depth of the big clubs.
It’s better than that.
On another thread there was a query about whether one of BTA’s goals on Saturday would be taken off him and credited as an own goal, so I Googled it.
Look what I found:

Our win against SW means that we have already been promoted!
Well done lads
Watched their highlights. He's all Sheffield Utd have . Far too good for themAnd that players name? Gustavo Hamer.

Just shows how quickly you can go from being one of the best sides to one of the worse. All it took was a bad manager change and a poor transfer window.Watched their highlights. He's all Sheffield Utd have . Far too good for them
