Oggy was born on this day 12th of September 1957. Top appearances for the Sky Blues of 601, and most consecutive league games at 241. And add in he scored a goal too against Sheffield Wednesday in 86, the first City keeper to do so.
A true Coventry City legend.

Well some may regard him as a legend but my own personal experiences with him are something else.

People will forget what you said and people will forget what you did but people will never forget how you made them feel.

And you Sir made me feel like shit.

My first born was due on Oggy's birthday. I was fuming when the wife popped her out four days early.

She struck gold for the 2nd one though who shares a birthday with Big Cyrille, 9/Feb.

This is more about appearances etc than his character. Sounds as if he left a negative impression on you. I remember a football great being an anti social and miserable bastard, and like you say you never forget.

Most polite City footballers I’ve ever met was Cyrille Regis, he was before my time obvs. And the other, Jay Tabb.

Met him once when I was 10, he was alright. Signed my programme. Absolute City legend in footballing terms though, surely no disagreement about that.

Oggy is great on CWR as co-commentator. Quite insightful, and nice to have a City legend involved.

I’ve had plenty of conversations with him over the years and always found him to be polite and insightful very much the way he comes across on the radio.
I also remember him as a player was often a grumpy sod. But we loved him all the same, especially his keep warm exercises during a game, he loved a star jump…. Total legend

I met Phil Neal at a hotel near Sheffield when we were playing Wednesday midweek, and he was our Manager. He was great, thanked my wife and I for coming to support the team. Seem to remember we lost….

As a quiet and sensitive 15yo, i sometimes worked at the club where he played snooker.
One evening in the snooker room whilst collecting glasses, his snooker pal told me in an aggressive manner to 'fuck off'.
Oggy was seemingly ok with his mate verbally abusing a kid for just doing his job, and said nothing.
Like you said, i still remember that moment from over 35 years ago, as if it were yesterday.

Your not the only one have said that. I was at the training ground in the mid 80s. Went in to have a cuppa and he was sitting down doing the same. One the Telegraph reporters asked him for a quick interview. His response has terrible. Arrogant and nasty. He did it but I thought at the time good keeper, But not a nice person!!

CWR can be pretty painful at times, but Oggy and Clive genuinely make a great team for commentary and analysis.
Far superior to the other local BBC football commentary teams I've heard commentate on our matches

Had a good chat with Oggy after the 4-1 at Wycombe a few years ago - was on top form. I met Cyrille at the premiere of an anti-racism film in Leicester Square, can't remember the film but must have been around 2005. Had a chat with him while we were in the loo and we were talking about Cov. Later on in the evening he came over to my girlfriend and I and continued the chat which was great. Made a big impression on me and my future wife.

I had to interview Gordon Strachan when I was at CWR. I got a bollocking off Ron Atkinson for walking across his precious pitch at Ryton. What annoyed me more was that it had just been churned up after a training session! I just ignored the fat twat which made him see red. So he made me wait about half an hour after my scheduled time, to interview Strachan! Wanker!

I've been fortunate in my job to have met 2 City players and both were friendly and approachable. I cleaned the windows at Ernie Machin's house, and at Les Sealey home when he lived in Walsgrave. And talked with Bill Glazier at a legend's day at the casino, and he too was a quiet modest bloke and I was awestruck as he was a bit of a sky blues hero to me.

I met Oggy a few times and he was always really nice, maybe he's moody? Cyrille was always delightful the few times we met when I was a kid. Probably two main heros growing up
