Bobby McDonald for me. Best defender City ever had! My next choices would be Tommy Hutchison, Robbie Keane and Mick Ferguson. Never rated Oggy much.

I still regard Bobby Mc as the best left back I've ever seen at the club.

Me and my stepdad went up to Hampden to see Jim Blyth make his Scottish debut. Not great, ball went through his legs for their goal - can't remember who it was even against now. I was 12 and it was very exciting. Around the time of the Argentina World Cup.

Your memory isn't quite correct. Although Blyth got blamed for the goal, and it was a reason used to justify keeping the hapless Alan Rough in goal, it was all a bit of an urban myth as the fault really lied with Willie Donachie.

Although he didn't have the longevity of Glazier or Oggy for that period Blyth played for us in the late 70's he was the best keeper I have seen play for us. Unfortunately injuries did for him and cut short his career.

Thanks for that. It was a long time ago! Never thought of looking on YT and always remembered my, obviously incorrect, version of events!

Wasn't really Blyth's fault at all. Well, I never.

Great commentary by Hugh Johns, who was a feature of Star Soccer, and the highlight of Sunday's in the 70's

Still can't believe we went all the way up there to watch it. We're not Scottish! Purely to see JB.

Pretty sure Ian Wallace had been picked for the squad too, so I guess you might have been hoping he would play too.

We certainly had a load of great Scottish players right through the 70's from Ian Gibson, Roy Barry, Willie Carr, Colin Stein, Tommy Hutchison, Blyth, Wallace, Bobby McDonald, Jim Holton, Gary Gillespie etc.

Wallace did play as I remember seeing him but not sure if he started or came on as a sub.

Hell of a finish from Donachie to be fair.
Bobby Thomas look away now.

If you ask Strachan who was the best player ever for us he always says Oggy. I guess he saw it first hand every day.
It’s fair to say he is our most loyal/recognised player from the outside but not sure the best ever.
It has to be Dublin and Regis for me-unfortunately I can’t split them.

Says everything about Strachan but then he did rate Paul Telfer so that might sum up his knowledge

I met Bobby MacDonald in the City Centre Club late 70s. Little bit awe struck I bought him a beer and he said he enjoyed it here and liked the fans. Tight Scottish bastard didn’t get me one back though. Joking aside i thought he was a great full back,a steal from the Villa for £40k transfer fee

Something like that would do…

Came here to say the same, late 70's, City Centre Club on a midweek evening. He must have been a regular down there. We had a chat and a beer. Nice bloke and best left back we ever had imo.

Not for me.
I've had two dealings with him in the past and he was less than pleasant on both occasions.
He might be a legend to most that watched him keep goal for us but I can only speak as I find and I've got no time for him.

In his day found him to be quite ignorant and very much offended if you spoke to him. Sounds good on the radio but I just can’t forget it from back in the day.

He rose to greatness after leaving us.
During their respective playing time at CCFC I'd put Macdonald ahead of Pearce.

My favourite but not sure he was our best player ever…but I’d agree, with greatest. If that all makes sense.

I have the book called ‘Staying Up’ by Rick Gekoski, he had access to the team through the 97/98 season and that’s when Ogrizovic was dropped for Hedman, the general consensus was that Hedman looked like he was from another planet in training compared to Ogrizovic. Punching one of our fans at Preston probably didn’t do him too many favours, but yeah- great keeper. I’d put the Kirkland that we had above all of them in terms of ability, but in terms of what each contributed to the club over time, Ogrizovic stands miles ahead in my opinion.

I have just got a copy. Not very far in to be fair, but a brilliant read so far. There are some real parallels with today’s situation. A perceived poor midfield, a lack of mental strength, inconsistent defence. A bit of a surprise given modern day sports science and psychology. To be recommended.

George Curtis for me. Captain from 4th Division to the 1st Division ( today's Division 2 to the Premiership). Built like a tank and could score goals too.
