The Tats foul If you're having the neck of you're shirt pulled downwards for about 10 yds running at speed, there is only one direction you are going and that is down. The holding of shorts is because when your falling you grab at the nearest thing to try and stop yourself going down which he was not doing until the foul.
Anyone doubting it look at post 241 on here the linesman and the ref. have a clear view. Why no action?

If you refer to a clip it should prove your point. This one doesn’t. There was no foul.

I think we all agree that the standard of officiating is poor. What I would like to see is the Premier League recruiting the best officials from around the world, as the PL has the money and arguably a high proportion of the best players playing in the PL.
The impact of some of the best coaches joining the PL & EFL has had on player development is significant and I would hope that this would be duplicated in officials development.

Or alternatively divert a bigger chunk of that obscene TV money into better training of officials

There are good methods in terms of development and excellent pathways for officials for the right candidates. I have said many times on here that officials that show promise are sky rocketed to quickly. I have seen it so often even at grass roots level that officials and local county’s are in to much of a rush to propel people who are not quite ready to take the next step. I always advise promotion candidates to “get another year in the tank” experience wise before they take the next step. Unfortunately that is not toeing the party line and often politics come into play.

The skyrocketing happens because we don’t have enough people doing it full stop. If you invested the money into providing better protection and support for people doing Sunday league and non-league you’d probably have better retention which would in turn lead to people being able to take more time to learn their trade.

I did it for a good 5-6 years but was just sick of getting dog’s abuse for not much money and not much support from my local FA

People really don't realise how intimidating refereeing even at the amateur level can be - verbal abuse is basically a given and from my experience as a player I'd see physical/violent threats or abuse at least once a season.

At the premier league level you have clubs paying millions of pounds per week in squad salary costs yet the referees, who can impact the result more than any single player, get just £180k per YEAR + match fees.

Tongue twister Thai tier 2? It seems VAR slows games down a lot. But we’d have benefitted several times this season.

I didn't know they earned that much! Just 180k a year you say

I personally don't see how paying them more money somehow equates to them making better decisions, or helps the grass roots refs to get less abuse.

Mistakes are made, it's part of the game. The standard of refereeing needs to be improved but adding VAR to this league, would take away a big part of what makes it the greatest.

You don’t see how offering more money (at all levels) will attract more and higher quality referees?

Yep-and as part of the FA and County FA I can’t disagree. I have had many phone calls recently in regards to mentioning “promising Referees who are showing potential”
Unfortunately there are not enough people within the circle (such as myself or even ex referees) to offer support and be at the side of the pitch on a Saturday/Sunday to offer guidance in the early stages. Candidates will then turn their back on the game due to as has been said previously the amount of abuse.
I would be very surprised if 1 in 20 new referees has any support from a mentor or the local County FA. Those who do are the lucky ones.

I started reffing as a teenager, so my dad was often by the pitch just as @Sky Blue Pete was for his lad. When he was I performed a lot better knowing there was some support there if needed.

Unfortunately this ref tends to favor the home team when it comes to cards and pens given. Could be a rough night if we allow it to be put in his hands.

Didn't rate him at all, but then again i haven't seen a great ref for a long time and in the championship hardly ever. So some decisions i was not shocked at which way he pointed.

It was an outstanding call to give Preston the red. The lino also got a brilliant call right for the EMC offside.

Generally he was giving Preston a lot of niggly fouls against EMC but overall they did well tonight.

Nobel Prize is barely £1 million for being among the best in your field, typical professors in the UK don’t get much north of £60-70k.
