I apologise for saying Matty James flatters to deceive

McFadz has done well but too old next season and needs to be replaced. Not convinced Kelly is anymore than a useful squad player at this level. James hasnt had the impact I had hoped. Hamer seems to prefer playing deep where Kelly is or up top where O'Hare is. The inbetween wider right...

@PVA I just wonder sometimes… how good is DaCosta?

Match Thread - Forest (H) Tuesday, 7 pm KO

How has robins started Pask over DaCosta ? Started with a back 4... Not wing backs I'm guessing is the reason

Biamou - new contract

I very much doubt Biamou is on anything like 4k. It's not really a particularly hot take. I would Biamou is closer to 4k then 1k (more likely 2.5-3k). I'm basing it on an initial average L2 wage, 2 promotion wage rises, new contract while in L1 (rise) and 3 yearly incremental wage rises. Jones...

No mention for Gould who bought the cup final team and won it the year after with unfancied Wimbledon?

In all seriousness I think Sillet for his man management, Hill for influences in the wider game and starting the Sky Blue revolution - MR currently behind them both, but we win next week and I'll contribute to any statue fund!

Seen em all but Sillet is my favourite because of 87 . I was 28 then . Hill promotion only 8 and now with MR an old fucker.
What Robins has done is truly remarkable. I'll be at Wembley and tbh I never thought this would happen again in my lifetime. I can't wait

Fans seem to forget George Curtis was the manager of the cup final team.

They're all greats in their own right , all have done remarkable things for the club
Like another poster said, MR has made watching the City a fantastic experience again
Before him I can't remember when I was last looking forward to going to games so much

He was the general manager, Sillet was the first team coach. They had equal billing, but Sillet was responsible for tactics and training, Curtis was the admin and motivation. Sillet generally recognised as having more influence over the team itself however.

Whilst not the whole of football, Robins has not only changed the culture of the club, but managed to unite (largely) a fan base that was fragmented, in our lowest possible situation.

Different type of culture to Hill though. Hill made a club beyond a team. Hill made us at the forefront of the white heart of technology. Hill really is unique in what he did and that can't be undervalued.

Sillet is under appreciated. His 4 top flight finishes were 10th, 10th, 7th and 12th. The year we were 7th we were genuine title contenders for much of that season and should have finished higher. Add in the FA Cup win and 2 cup semi-finals, it was a remarkable period for the club, and perhaps not one fully appreciated at the time, especially as the English game was in the doldrums generally. Pity we didn't get to play in Europe.

Robins pulls this off though, it's an almighty achievement. Statue worthy.

If you take all the promotions and cup wins in our history, and IF we beat Luton, here’s how it allstacks up:

Frank Scott Walford
1914/1915 promoted

Harry Storer
1935/1936 promoted (champions)

Billy Frith
1958/1959 promoted

Jimmy Hill
1963/1964 promoted (champions)
1966/67 promoted (champions)

John Sillett
86/87 FA Cup Winners

Mark Robins
2016/2017 checkatrade trophy winners
2017/18 promoted
2019/2020 promoted (champions)
2022/23 promoted

That would make Mark Robins responsible for 40% of all promotions and cup wins in our history.

what sticks out there is that no matter who your personal preference is, Jimmy Hill, John Sillett and Mark Robins are leagues ahead of the rest. Storer could maybe have matched them had WW2 not intervened, but also in terms of impact on the club and the city, which isn’t purely about results, you can’t touch the ‘big three’.

Yeah, I always maintain if European football was at stake or if the financial rewards for the higher you finish existed then, we would have finished even higher in at least a couple of those seasons.

If we get promoted, only an idiot would not put him up there, with the challenge in todays game being so much harder due to finances, playing at different grounds, no pitch etc etc - but it is totally impossible to say where he would sit alongside the others - and to shout people down who think 1 way or other, is foolish, - as there is no right answer

Before MR we had only been to Wembley in 1 year, now in his 6 year stint we have done it in 3 years . Crowds have increased from around 9k to 20k average . Squad value gone up from maybe £2m to nearer £40m + . I was not around in the JH era, and my late dad used to tell me stories of that, but MR is bringing the club together and the city probably in a similar way .

JH was not infallible, and when Chairman, some of the chants from our own fans, especially the day we lost at home to Notts county -

Just as in any sport , you cant truly compare between eras, and so it maybe impossible to say is he 1,2,3 etc - but he certainly ranks alongside them, and in our Mount Rushmore it would certainly be him with JS/GC/JH from my era (I dont know enough of those pre 60s).

Robins so far has succeeded with every challenge given to him, with the rules of the competition at the time
That said I think him and Adi are very much our Clough and Taylor

League 2 1 year
League 1 2 years
Championship Please please 3 years
he now has 4 years ....... what next

Remember the JH spell backed by Derrick robins through from cantwell, through the Milne era the sillet spell and FA cup victory to Atkinson and Strachan.
Then came Sisu who I thought were looking to remove the club from the league pyramid ,then came mark robins second coming and on no money re written the JH story and made it more impressive than the original on the pitch creating his own legacy,
I think he's already our greatest manager ever.

they had the same job title but their roles were vastly different. Make no bones about it, Sillett was the manager of the team, Curtis was the disciplinarian/ admin/ organiser- no doubt a big factor in the team spirit though.

there’s a video on YouTube of us v Liverpool in 86/87. Pre match Sillett is in with the players the whole time, while Curtis runs around the restaurant, sorting tickets out and that type of thing. Pretty sure Sillett said himself that he was the football man- so although Curtis had the title and was in and around the players, Sillett was the man in charge of the football side.

People equate Robins with the Checkatrade win but that wasn't his squad or his efforts to get us there. We'd already qualified for the final when Robins was re-appointed and he didn't go into that with any momentum as his first 3 games (2 at home) were all defeats. So in that context, beating Oxford in the final could be considered as much Russell Slade's success as Robins'.

Everything since though, Robins, Viveash, Adi's predecessor Steve Taylor and the rest of the backroom staff have to take the full weight of praise for what has effectively been a phoenix-like transformation of the club.

I thought about that, but look at the run we were on, and Oxford were miles above us, Slade got us to the final alright but that was some going to win that final

But then if you want to be picky there was Sutton United and Northampton sandwiched in that time, but then in fairness Robins cup record is not a lot to talk about with home defeats to Northampton and Wrexham.

Does it matter, I suggest you drop out of these manager discussions after your never to be forgotten Kenny Jackett comment.
