Notts County have parted company with Paul Ince by mutual consent following five successive defeats.

The League One club have been on a dreadful run of form and former England international Ince has paid the ultimate price, having only taken the reins at Meadow Lane in October.

County have not scored a goal from open play in eight games and currently sit just two points above the relegation zone.

The club have acted following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at home to Oldham, with the business end of the season just around the corner, and head scout Carl Heggs will take charge of the team for Tuesday night's clash with Rochdale.
Magpies chairman Ray Trew admits it was a tough decision for everyone involved, but felt it was the right call as they strive to avoid the drop.

Heavy heart

"It was with a heavy heart that the board of directors called a meeting in the aftermath of our defeat to Oldham," he told the club's official website.

"However, the recent run of results, which saw us win just once in March, meant that we were all in agreement that we had to address the situation.

"When we sat down to discuss the matter with Paul, it became clear that we were in agreement that a parting of the ways would be the best way forwards for all parties.

"I would like to place on record my thanks to Paul for his effort and commitment during his time at Meadow Lane, I am certain that under other circumstances things could have been very different, but we believe that this decision is in the best interests of both Paul and the club."

Ince has yet to spend more than one year as manager of a club, despite two previous stints at MK Dons, a spell at Macclesfield and a period at Premier League outfit Blackburn.
