What do you mean by even you Tony?

You do realise this really is a damning indictment of player attitude more than anything else and an attitude that has more than likely prevailed for some time?

Ultimately if a player decides to ignore the advice of a fitness coach the responsibility is the players and the manager.

Some players I'm sure have had a lazy attitude to training for some time. If a player wants to retain fitness he can and he will. As I said before Baker knew that the thorn "training" regime was a joke and many sessions never happened st all so he made it his personal responsibility to maintain fitness.

For players this is inexcusable.

You didn't hear what he said did you? He actually said it's not a criticism of those who went before me... (pregnant pause) ...well actually it is. Or words to that effect.

He wasn't picking out any individual players it was a collective criticism

Interesting that you say if a player doesn't listen to a coach it's not the coaches fault. You should post that on the Oggy thread. If nothing else you'll get an automatic like of torch. He probably won't even notice you're disagreeing with him.

At last a manager that actual knows the blinking obvious !

What the hell Mowbray, Venus and Slade were playing at god knows. An utter disgrace the lot of them.

I can't face watching this bunch of gutless cowards ,who aren't even fit to grace a Sunday morning charity league ,that have worn the famous skyblue shirt this season represent us at Wembley. I cant stand the thought of the ritual end of game walk around applauding the fans and the fans doing likewise. Not one of them deserve to be applauded in my view
They have insulted and put shame on the club with there effort and lack of skill this season , total disgrace the lot of them and I don't want any part of it.
My support awaits hopefully the new bunch next season, and if more than two from this season are in the starting lineup, then we could be in another poor season.

He wasn't referring to needing a fitness coach - he said coaches, management and players have to take responsibility for getting and maintaining fitness.

Despite being a critic of baker he, when thorn was in town, took it upon himself to get and maintain fitness.

What he is getting at is there has been a lack of co-ordinated training activity which has resulted in players not maintaining levels required.

A lot of players like Haynes, Reid bigiamarana, Jones are just not capable of playing 90 minutes.

"a lack of coordinated training activity" goes back to Strachan. Yes you can blame the succession of managers but also need to look at the players attitudes living in a false comfort zone. Put a uninspiring and leaderless corporate roof over their heads and it will produce the rapid decline and failure we have witnessed in recent seasons.

I can accept not being good enough or even not mentally tough enough, but fitness, effort and attitude particularly when it's your job, should be a given. In fact it says much about personal desire and standards despite ability too. If true then utterly disgraceful.

You know what grates me is that most of that bunch of lazy arsed cheating bone idle bastards will to a 'man' smirk at robins comments and deny that they have cheated there careers away this season along with blaming everyone else apart from themselves.

You can hear them now... it was mowbrays fault...it was venus's fault...it's slades fault....it's the pitch....it's SISU....it's everyone apart from themselves.

I dread Wembley I really do....these bastards have two weeks to improve there fitness before that game and you know what.... everyone of them will piss off after training instead of doing extra fitness work to get that extra 2/3% fitness in them.

If anyone knows what's going on at ryton and the players leaving early please name and shame the bone idle bastards.

Not fit enough and not strong enough. What annoys me is how the footballing profession seems to trump the average job.

If I turned up to work so inadequate I would be fired.

What has Mowbray/Venus/Slade been doing with the players if they are not able to compete professionally?

We aren't just going down, we are going down pathetically.

Apologies Rev. Having re-read that, it does look like I'm not going to Wembley but I can assure you I am. For me, who didn't have a chance to go in 87, I'm going more for the atmosphere and a day singing with 45k fellow Cov fans.

I agree with the rest of what you've said though!

Looks like Slade was even more useless than we all thought.

If the guy on cwr was to be believed Slade was barely ever taking the training sessions anyway.

How sad, that as a club, we have to apologise for going to Wembley due to the shower representing CCFC at the minute It should be a happy occasion for all CCFC fans.

(This isn't aimed at anyone, just an observation of how the club has become)

Paul is an idiot and players don't become less fit when a new manager takes over. The buck stops with Mowbray on that one.

So six months down the line, the players ("pro footballers") have put their feet up rather than keeping in prime fitness, is down to Mowbray? Okay....

Ignoring Robins, there have been two men in charge since, they didnt notice? Think fitness training was important? What, they just carried on Mowbrays thoughts, theories n techniques?

Heard it all now. Current fitness of the squad is the fault of a manager who left nearly six months ago. Does that include the ones Slade signed?

its not lack of fitness, its the fact that the players are too young or too old, tugay Clarke ect are not unfit just too old , they are also not shit footballers but just too old for this level , extra training wont improve there fitness, it will slow them down , likewise dke, steverson ect will just burn them out, what is needed s the right balance , between experience and youth , not between kids wages and a few has-beens to balance the books

Players can become unfit when they don't train properly or at the right intensity. It's 6 months since mowbray was manager so it's possible they became less fit in the 6 months since Mowbray left the club as the quality of training decreased.

At almost any club the first thing that any new manager says is the players aren't fit enough and I'm going to improve it, that makes the fans feel happier as he can't say I am going to improve Tudgay's shooting and finishing as it's an impossible job

Match fitness is attained pre-season and then maintained throughout the season. So the buck starts at Mowbrays feet and Venus but also the players too. Professional pride comes into it too, they know if their fitness levels aren't up to it in and around the 70th minute of matches might explain the many late goals we seem to concede. We have to look at the coaches and managers all of them, they know if fitness levels are not up to scratch, niggling injuries and we seem to have plenty of them happen more regular too, ultimately though it's the managers responsibility.

Every manager in charge this season plays a responsibility in this debacle.

What is evident is that we have some of the worst coaches and fitnness staff at the club. I've never heard a season where players aren't fit. It's shocking.

There's no mental strength in any of our players. It will carry on into next season with the contracted players. I'm afraid it's a wholesale clear out.

He's right there. Every other team imposes themselves on the game physically. It's a battle we lose every week.

Pretty sure Robins made a comment early on about it been well documented that the training wasn't sufficient. I recall thinking where is that we'll documented.
I assume this is just under Slade watch. Otherwise we nearly got promoted last season whilst training very badly?

It's a failure that starts in the boardroom and filters down to the playing staff and their coaches, is it not?

A modern day footballer at this level is pretty much content to laze his way to a paycheck unless he's motivated and inspired to bleed for the shirt he's wearing - still, it's an abysmal show of sheer unprofessional conduct when half of the team don't even bother keeping themselves in some semblance of match fitness. Shameful little wasters, and lightweight pansies, who decided it was too much effort to try and keep this team afloat.

They can all vanish up their own arses for all I care, and I hope SISU's special day at Wembley is a diabolic fiasco for them. Fucking cunts.

Slade said the same thing when he arrived at the club that the training needed to change.

I've said before I'd heard the reason one player wasn't being played was his attitude to training.

It's no co-incidence that robins has used a lot of the January recruits. Look at the levels of stamina Reilly has compared to other players in the middle. Rawson is another.

Training in pre season is critical to levels of fitness and also the attitude of the players is paramount. If the training regime isn't sufficient and the players are happy with it then there's a problem that becomes hard to turn round. Once the season starts and you get a two game a week cycle you get problems

A lot of the regular players who've been here since the start (and that includes these young "stars") clearly have a poor attitude.

I suspect Mowbray and Venus just lost appetite for the challenge a while ago and the malaise filters down.

Thorn allegedly never conducted a training session properly and in the end it became farcical. Some players took it on themselves to retain fitness levels. A couple here clearly have - Rose as an example - many others can't be bothered and are lazy and self indulgent. A new manager wouldn't change that in mid season in a few weeks.
