In general the region receives crap coverage in the mainstream. I can't even remember the last long running tv show that was made in Cov, Keeping up Appearances I guess? And that ended 25 years ago and never explicitly stated that it was Coventry.

The bbc must make a shed load from the west midlands in licence fee money but they don't really appear to reinvest much of it in locally made content.

To answer the original question I consider myself from the Midlands. Can't stand 'professional northerners' or the mockney accent that you find all over the south now.

With the Midlands if they're going to set it here it's going to be Birmingham, like Peaky Blinders. Up north it's almost certainly going to be Manchester, Liverpool or maybe Newcastle.

The Nativity movies were done in Coventry because the author was local but again I don't know if they were stated as being in Coventry. And after the first one they weren't very good.

Last thing I remember being explicitly based in Cov was some sitcom written by a local woman called Emma Fryer but I think was only one series and wasn't that good.

Being from Scottish I have a lot more affinity with the North but as for Cov, it’s only been midlands

the only real question coming out of that, is do people see themselves as west mids or Warwickshire?

Warwickshire. West Mids I think for most is seen as Birmingham. Been plenty of noise from people wanting the region renamed Greater Birmingham because they have this one-upmanship with Manchester over who's bigger.

West Mids from Wolverhampton to Birmingham is pretty much one large urban area and there's no distinction when moving between Wolverhampton, West Brom, Walsall, Birmingham. Coventry is separated by the green belt so feels distinct from the rest of the region (at the moment - the calls to build a new town around the HS2 interchange could well see that start to erode). When you look at the West Midlands our bit juts out like a sore thumb and would make far more sense in Warwickshire.

Trouble is the local connectivity between Coventry and much of the Warwickshire region via public transport is terrible, possibly because we were part of West Mids so transport links focused on that area. Coventry should be the major centre of the Warwickshire region.

There was a series in the early 2000's - 'Bones and...' can't recall the full title. I never watched it but I think the synopsis was a few people who relocated to that London. I remember the lead character often wore a City shirt. (from watching trailer clips)

Even with Peaky Blinders though a good amount of it is filmed outside of the Midlands. The Midlands (including the East) actually recieves the lowest amount of investment from the bbc of all the defined regions, despite contributing a quarter of their entire license fee income. It would be nice to see Cov feature more, or even Warwickshire.

some well known actors in it, prior to their careers taking off. Fairly sure the fella out of Homeland was in it as was Amanda Holden.

Partly set in Cov yeah but nothing actually filmed here. I seem to remember it making the front page of the Telegraph at the time though, making it out as if Samuel L Jackson and Ryan Reynolds were supping in the Litten Tree before popping to Fishy Moores for their supper.

Lady Godiva obviously mentioned in a Queen song, but also in a Marx Brothers song too.

Also a link to the City in an episode of Columbo.

“Coventry” looks like central London in that film.

I remember from years ago (no doubt long summer school holidays late 1970's - early '80's) Mum and Dad would be at work, me and brother now trusted to be left alone. It must have been a particularly rainy day for us not to be out doing something and there used to be loads of old B&W films on TV during the daytime. I can even recall the title of the film even tho I couldn't tell you a thing of what it was about - 'Kings Row'.
An American film. The only thing I remember were two kids discussing a 'friend'. One of them says to the other, "We should send him to Coventry". I was vaguely aware of the phrase but more impressed that our City was seemingly known 'worldwide'.

The sewer car chase scenes from the original Italian Job were filmed in a in Stoke Aldermoor. It wasn’t planned, they just used CCTV of the area on a Saturday night...

The Cov spot where The Italian Job was filmed to be commemorated

An unforgettable Mini car chase scene from the classic 1969 movie was filmed in Stoke Aldermoor
