Children reach out to gay teacher threatened by parents over LGBT lessons

Brave guy and so lovely that the kids are understanding the message. Shame their parents can’t

Hardcore Muslims in homophobia shocker.

Reading between the lines it does seem like this guy is a little OTT and has picked a particularly thorny community to make a point. Regardless fuck those parents.

It depends how and what is taught to be honest.

My daughter has just grown up thinking gay and lesbians are just people who fall in love with people the same sex as them and to her it's nothing out of the ordinary if she hears about it. When she becomes a teenager it's not going to be a massive shock discovery or anything.

I think it's good that they are brought up thinking everybody is the same but as long as it's all withing reason and not going too far into preaching. Same with religions, I like that she learns about different religions and cultures and has no issue with people based on it. Her friends are just her friends no matter what religion. Still don't want people trying to convert her though.

I agree Nick. I treat everyone the same, no matter what their gender (i.e. the topic of this thread) or anything else. What I *can't* get my head around is the need to recognize them as something different. I thought that defeated the object. Stop fucking going on about it. Such a vast amount of time and effort is wasted on "initiatives" in the workplace. If I went on about MY sexuality for that long, I'd get disciplined for wasting time (or promoting heterosexuality as a thing!).

Teachers shouldn't push their own personal agendas, that's indoctrination, not teaching.
They should stick to the curriculum and not inject personal issues into it.

It’s become part of the curriculum and I think it’s excellent

You think teachers shouldn’t have a passion for a subject? Just be droning automatons repeating pre written scripts?

Or is my music teacher loving Beethoven OK, but my PSHE teacher accepting gays not so much?

It's fine as long as the music teacher acknowledges all forms of music and doesn't overly bang on about Beethoven. If they go around saying rap/hip-hop/grime etc isn't music then no because that's personal opinion.

Similarly if the PHSE teacher goes on about homosexuality for an inordinate amount of time or is disapproving of gay relationships that shouldn't be acceptable. If an RE teacher spends too long praising the virtues of one particular religion over another or denouncing atheism/evolution that isn't acceptable either. It should provide an understanding of as many ideas as possible.

During sex ed you do get the mechanics explained as part of the biology of creating children rather than how to do it so to explain homosexuality would you have to do the same? Cos for me that's more like showing children different positions/techniques/kinks.

What about if it's a gay IT teacher talking about docking stations?

He comes across as the type of agenda creators who wanted to get a Christian bakery to endorse gay relationships

I think he’s a self righteous twat

I was talking about the subject on the whole, not the particular individual.
