With the way he started and the improvement in results it looked like it might
be "Love in the first degree" he came across as a bit of a "Shy boy" but in
Recent interviews it seems like he's "Really saying something" I must admit
I was a little concerned when "I heard a rumour" about him building houses

So he's standing on the touchline with his hands in his pockets? So what? Strachan was an animated manager and he was crap. At the end of the day I disagree with the assertion 'it ain't what you do it's the way that you do it'.

He isn't doing great for Scotland, mind

Similar to Coleman, his acing it with Wales will never retrospectively change him being a right load of arse for us.

Doesn't say much for the England Squad then! Scotland played well against England, and but for a bit of bad luck the score, and result, could have been a bit different.....I'm English btw and I think the scoreline flattered us.

Yes, he was lucky at Celtic as he inherited a very good squad, though in his last year they finished 2nd.

His record at Southampton was / is hardly outstanding - yes they got to a cup final but you get nothing for being runner up. He achieved a 35.43% win ratio. Brilliant.

His longest spell as a manager was at CCFC and it was a disaster for the club from which it hasn't recovered. The reality is that he relegated us in his first season, but for a points deduction for Middlesborough.

Same, I thought Scotland actually created more decent chances but it was a rare case of England finishing every chance we got.

I recall right at the end of Strachan's tenure a midweek game during which the whole ground chanted "we want Strachan out" . Seldom heard so many voices chanting as one. That says it all .

Strahan had all his goals disappear from the team and we got relegated. Losing McAllister and Keane killed us. He did better at Celtic than Oneil did, getting them past the group stages of the champions league on a number of occasions while drastically reducing the wage bill. He's a bit like Marmite, some love him some hate him.

Strachan kept us up in his first season taking over from big Ron.
Then in his first full season we finished 11th and got the QF of the FA cup.
He signed Botang Hedman and Neilson in that season.
15th in his next season signing Robbie Keane, haji and chippo

He then had a bad season getting us relegated. Also the Bellemy gamble never paid off. It's only post Coventry we got to see why Strachan signed him.

He then only got 5 games into trying to get us back up before getting sacked.

Other than that last season these were some of my best times as a Cov fan.

He then takes over at Southampton where they had become widely tipped for relegation due to a very bad start. He gets them to 11th.
The following season he gets them to 8th, which is no mean feat. With a team that were favourites to be relegated when you took over them the season before. He also got them to the FA Cup final that same season. He also got them into Europe.
He resigns (not sacked for a career break for 16 months)
His first season in charge of Celtic he took the title back off Rangers.
Totally restructured (the good side you said he inherited)
Won the title again the following season with his side
Got out of a champions league group (first time) containing Man Utd, Benfica and FC Copenhagen.
Lost to AC Milan (winners) in extra time.
Following season got Celtic into the last 16 of champions league.
Win the title again and became only 3rd ever manager to win 3 titles in a row with Celtic.
Stepped down as manager in his 4th season after finishing 2nd.
Had a poor time with Midflesborough and like Mowbray stepped down and took no compo.

I don't think he really fits the definition of 'crap' manager.
I have a feeling we shot the gun too early when sacked him.

Strachan ... amazing player ... not a great man manager.

But in reality the manager's performance is very much clouded by the quality of players at his disposal. When we had great players Strachan looked great, when we had bad players he looked awful.

Same for Robins - he only looked good because McGoldrick hit that rich vein of form. If he had stayed more than a year he would likely have failed along with every other manager we have had since Snoz and Curtis.

Signing Bellamy as our main goakscorer after spending a season out injured with a broken leg was a rediculous decision anyway.
