Well he will score the teams he plays in are all set up to feed him to the detriment of the team. Spurs we’re flying when he left it’s a shame the got so many injuries. England would be a far better team without him in it.

Perhaps he should have not played most of the season like Shaw! Don't get it!

I was surprised Southgate didn't sign Maatsen in the January window.

It's no surprise, unfortunately for him we are blessed with very good players in his role. Through circumstances, not necessarily his fault he hasn't had a standout season.

Not surprised he has looked ordinary and we have an embarrassment of riches in that area

Last place he would want to be seeing all his mates get in and you are getting cut and a waste of his time hanging around

As someone who follows Cov, season ticket etc ,who also travels home and away with England and is off to Germany soon, the only person who can stop us winning the Euros is Southgate .pusb

So you think maddison gets in ahead of palmer foden and Bellingham? Why waste the place. You mention options then dismiss someone who can play in more than 1 position.

Can't argue with Maddison's omission, he hasn't exactly set the world alight at Spurs since coming back from his injury.

If he can't even get a guaranteed start at club level he's unlikely to get into the final England squad.

Or Eze, who’s ended the season strongly and can cover both wings.

I agree with all the omissions Southgate made despite liking Branthwaite as a player. Our only recognised LB is injured and with Trippier likely needing to play LB, Konsa makes sense as RB cover. If Maguire is fit, he’s a nailed in starter but looking forward to seeing Guehi in that role.

The only surprise was Grealish and if we’re going in form, he’s not performed as well as Bowen, Gordon, Eze and so on.

No, but justify why the likes of Shaw, Maguire and Grealish are almost certain to be on the plane.

They've either shown no form or simply not shown this season. Maguire, apart from his goal was bang average in the semi and was only in the team because they had an injury crisis, Shaw is a crock and Grealish hardly played for Manx Shitty towards the final third of the season.

There are/is more than very capable alternatives for each of those players.

It's a fact that we have a glut of talented midfielders and it's unfortunate that Maddison is the one that's misses out but I'm biased because he's a Cov kid like us all and I can't see further than that

Clearly I wasn't, but then I don't claim to be ITK.

My assumption was based on knowing absolutely nothing about anything.

I don’t get how this is questioned. I love madders, but at the moment he’s competing with Foden, Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Gordon, and Saka. He’s not better than any of them.

It’s no point bringing up players like Shaw because he doesn’t play left back.

If some people here took their Sky Blue tinted specs off they’d realise not taking Maddison is the right call

Maddison is behind Bellingham , Foden and Palmer. They all had better seasons, not taking him is the correct call

He's also behind Saka, Gordon and Eze. I think he's capable of being at least as good as the latter two but not on current form, so I don't see how Southall could possibly have included him.

On his early season form Maddison would have been in the squad, but can't really argue with those picked ahead of him, once Grealish was also omitted. Surprised also about Dunk, as I would have definitely gone with Quansah instead, even as a learning experience as a squad member for future big tournaments.

Maddison has been unlucky with injury and form since his return. Based on the first three months of the season, he would be ahead of Palmer in the pecking order.

The only decision I really disagree with is Dunk over Branthwaite. I do realise that if Stones gets injured/suspended then we lack experience but Branthwaite still looks more solid than Dunk. More mobile and had a better season too.

That was a very poor performance last night from England. The slow pedestrian possession play allowed Iceland to get 11 players back and we were trying to thread passes through a compressed defence.

Then when we lost the ball there were big spaces for them to counter attack. If we play like this at the Euro's we will struggle.

I still think that more than any other England midfield player, Maddison can thread a pass through and unlock a tight defence. Foden and Bellingham are excellent players, but I don’t think they have that ability to the same extent as Maddison. I’d have taken him, even before last night.

Never mind Iceland, we'd struggle against Lidl and Aldi after a performance like last night.
