Is that usual?
Don't normally watch the warm ups but because I'm doing dry Jan was in my seat early today and noticed he wasn't part of the warm up. Or at least what I saw of it.

Didn’t notice today, but normally keepers come out early and train, then the starting keeper goes early to changing room while the rest stay out.

He's got so much confidence that he doesn't need to warm up!

Well hard!

He was practising kicking with 2 others (I think one was Collins) from the goal nearest the Watford fans before even the other players came out and practising shot stopping while the rest of the team were doing their pass & intercept kick around.

Unless my eyes are that bad.

That sounds as though it happened before I was watching.
It's probably the norm but I'm unfamiliar with it.

He had another great game today. So happy we have a proper number 1. However - apart from when he decided to purposly kick the ball at their CF which nearly resulted in a goal.

I've no idea what the rules are on that - but why didn't he just side step him. Nearly ruined his great form with one stupid moment.

The Referee got it wrong. An opposing player isn’t allowed to “deliberately” block a goalkeeper kicking the ball out of his hands. It should be a free kick. Hence the referee realising at half time, or from the 4th official and then giving a free kick in the second half for the same thing. Dovin was furious and rightly so.

we were in our seats early today, about 2:30. i didn't see him anywhere on the pitch for the 30mins before the game. and as soon as i realised he wasn't warming up in the goal i was looking for him.
could be wrong, but my eyes aren't that bad. and he is usually out before the game.
very odd.

Unfortunately the rules aren't really 100% clear on that.

Should be a foul imo though.

Honestly I don’t see why. It’s not a free kick, it’s just a player playing the ball and he should be allowed to be challenged but GKs have a protection field around them these days I guess.

It's always the case that the keepers playing go in early. It's usually the sub and third keeper doing the warm up with the players taking shots.

Has it?

Just reading this thread on a ref’s forum and it doesn’t seem as clear cut tbh:

Blocking Keepers Kick Out Hands

Interesting one from Sunday for me that I've just been discussing with some mates! I gave an IDFK as the home striker to me, looked to block the keepers kick out of his hands, my friends, who were watching the game said that he just stood his ground and the keeper kicked it at him. To me, I'd...

The offence is stopping the keeper releasing it from their hands, which he didn’t do.

I can remember George Best getting a flick onto a ball the keeper had just released once.

You think the keeper should be allowed to be challenged when he drop kicks it?

All it would do is cause scrappy, dangerous situations and would have no benefit to either the skill or spectacle of the game.

I think a player should be able to stand in front of a clearance to block it yes. The ball is out of their hands and in play, why on earth wouldn’t they. Not sure why it would be dangerous.

Because in order to block it you’ve got to be very close and risk getting kicked or a ball in the face

No because usually the ball is being kicked off the ground, not out of the hands. Anyway, you’re being deliberately obtuse.

What does allowing players to stand a yard in front of the keeper to block add to the game? Nothing.

If the striker is out of the area it’s not out of their hands is it? Or that would be a free kick.

It’s this sort of stupidity that leads to overhead kicks being banned.

Did you even watch the situation yesterday? Dovin was kicking from his hands and the striker was outside the area.

Overhead kicks are a foul if there is another player challenging the ball with their head because it’s dangerous play. No idea what your point is here.

My point is that players are allowed to challenge for the ball when it’s in play, which it is once it leaves the keepers hands.

The keeper is perfectly capable of throwing it to a defender if a kick isn’t on. I thought Dovin was stupid to try and prove a point yesterday. Players don’t have to retreat ten yards whenever the keeper has the ball, they’re just not allowed to stop the keeper from releasing it, which they aren’t. They’re making it harder to do a particular type of release the keeper wants.

And no I don’t think overhead kicks should be banned for being dangerous.

As long as the opposition player is outside the box and not trying to actively block I don't see yesterday's incident as being a foul. At the end of the day Dovin doesn't have to take every kick from the edge of his box. If he takes it 5 yards further back its going over the forwards head regardless.

Tryin to actively block is standing right in front of Dovin and moving when he moves, isn't it?

No, I would say 'actively' blocking is jumping up in front of him as the keeper kicks the ball, not standing still in front of him. Dovin doesnt have to always kick the ball from right on the edge of the box!

Dovin needs to get careful anyway, as he gets very borderline close to still holding the ball outside the area when he releases such kicks, and it could be only a matter of time before some eagle eyed official pulls him up for it if he continues to do so.

Noticed this myself. There was one occasion in the 2bd half where I thought he'd taken the ball outside of the box though the linesman was inline with the 18 yard line so it must have been OK but it is very risky.
