Chris Dagnall won’t be coming back to haunt Coventry City tomorrow after it emerged he’s still officially on the Sky Blues’ books until Sunday.
The striker’s loan is due to expire on January 5 but the player returned to his parent club Barnsley on Thursday, following the New Year's Day win at Rotherham, hoping to be recalled to the Tykes’ squad for the FA Cup third-round clash with City at Oakwell.
Dagnall was denied permission by his club to play in the competition during his temporary stint at Coventry, who beat Hartlepool during his month-long stay to book their place in today’s round against the 27-year-old’s club.
“Initially we thought Chris could play against us and, if I was (Barnsley boss) Danny Wilson, I would have thrown him in, especially after Shaun Jeffers and Jonson Clarke-Harris came back to haunt us when they scored for Peterborough and Oldham over Christmas,” said City manager Steven Pressley.
“But I understand that because his loan was due to end after Saturday’s game – which was originally scheduled as a league game against Bristol City – he is not eligible to play for Barnsley until after the 5th.”

Thank goodness for that ..........................ex players scoring against us and all that

Good spot mate - that's at least one less goal that we'll have to score to win. ;)
