Nimely Signs For Palace

PUBLISHED
15:58 10th January 2013

Crystal Palace FC are delighted to announce the signing of Alex Nimely from Manchester City on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 21 year old becomes Ian Holloway's first signing as Eagles boss and goes straight into the squad that travel to Burnley for their next npower Championship match on Saturday.

Having began his career in Cameroon, Nimely impressed on trial at City and signed for the club in January 2008, making his only appearance for the club in a Premier League game against Burnley in 2009. He spent time on loan at Middlesbrough in 2011, playing 10 games on Teeside including making his debut against Palace in the League Cup in September 2011.

He joined Coventry City last January and made 17 appearances and scored one goal for the Sky Blues, and has already played at Selhurst Park this season for City's development side in their 1-1 draw with the Eagles.

After signing his deal, Nimely said: “I've played against Blackpool and Crystal Palace a couple of times so I think the manager has been watching me for a long time so when he gave me the call to come here I was very happy to.

“The lads are all good and they've welcomed me well. I trained last week before the game against Stoke and I watched that game and was shocked by the way they play football by keeping the ball on the floor. I met the manager and he's fantastic. His philosophy is great as he wants to play good football and help the young players improve.”

Holloway added: “I've admired him for a couple of years, I like his movement, skill and his tenacity. I want him to play for us and get some goals and hopefully he'll do that.

“He's a nice kid and he's one of the ones that they tend to stack and rack at clubs like Manchester City and I'm very pleased that with the choices he had he's chosen us.”

Yeh he started in their 0-0 draw vs Bolton. Nearly scored as well (where have we heard that before I wonder lol).

He wasn't even on the bench for their 1-0 lose to Huddersfield though!
