IF it all goes tits-up, our team next season after relegation:

----------------------Murphy/Dunn------------------
Christie/Clarke--Cameron--McPake-----Hussey--
-------------------------Bigi--------------------------
----------Thomas---------------Deegan------------
------------------Baker/Bell/Sheff------------------
------------------Roy-------Cody--------------------

Reckon we'll lose Sammy, Cranie, Keogh and Lukas either at Xmas or the end of the season if relegated (possibly regardless). Platt will probably leave at the end of his contract, ditto Freddy. Most of the rest are either on reasonable wages or long-term deals. The younger players are all talented but if we were relegated their stock would have perhaps fallen enough for us to hang onto most of them. If there's one we'll lose, based on last night it's Cameron or Thomas-both superb. The other one we may lose from that XI is maybe Deegan, but I'd like to think he's the kind who would repay our loyalty by sticking around.

So, is that a good enough side to bounce back if we go down? And if not, will the youngsters have improved enough to keep us up? 'Cos the Big Four will probably be offski then anyway.

with that side, Mid-table should be achieveable, won't trouble the top 6, followed by a slow decline toward league two.

This season is barely started and you are already picking the team for next year.
Winter depression caught you ealy?
(Or did you just never get out of last winters depression?)

I feel slightly depressed whilst writing this, but I'll give it a go for hypothetical purposes:

............................Murphy........................
Christie........Keogh......McPake.........Hussey
.........................Bigirimana......................
.................Deegan.........Baker..................
........................McSheffrey......................
............O'Donovan.........McDonald.............

Subs - Dunn, Clarke, Cameron, Wood, Thomas, Bell, Ruffels, Jeffers, Wilson.

Read my posts in the past 24 hours and you'll be hard pressed to find a more positive fan. I actually started this thread with the vision of us bouncing back a la Norwich/Leicester, something I didn't even think possible until last night. The 3 best performances were from guys we've barely seen last season in Deegan, Thomas and Cameron.

Agreed, but I think..no, I know Keogh will be snapped up, definitely if we went down, and probably if we didn't.

I also think Wood may be off at some point, and rate Thomas above Baker-certainly by next season if he keeps getting better, which I think he will. Cracking prospect, as are Hussey, Christie, Cameron, Dunn, Bigi, Clarke, Ruffles...it's almost a new era I'm thinking about. Best youth crop in yonks.

I'm not 100% sure whether Keogh will go. He's a solid player, no doubt about that, but I just don't think he will be that in demand. I may be proved wrong, but hopefully not.
Agreed about the young lads though mate. There's not just one or two cracking youngsters that have come through, there's a whole batch of them.

Huge bids on deadline day, trust me on that. SISU asked for a stupid figure to shut them up. I know, they did something good!!!!

Keogh is one of those that I just don't understand the hype. He's an honest enough pro, but I can't see a massive scramble for his signature if we went down.
Dunn (Murphy would probably go as he did when he came to us)
Keogh Cameron McPake Hussey (Cranie will go as he is out of contract)
Bigirimana (Clingan: same as Cranie)
Thomas Deegan (Bell would be on the bench)
Baker (McSheffrey won't resign if we're in L1)
Platt McDonald (I'd actually give Platt an extension if we were relegated and Juke left)

But why? I mean we've got RBs coming out of our ears, as we have CBs. If we're strapped for cash, and someone wants to pay anything over half a mill for one of our players we should have let him go.

What's your source, because I'm not sure I believe that.

I can't say and don't really want to make a song and dance about it, but I know it's true , which is good enough for me, but can't resist mentioning it when it becomes an issue in debates on here. I've done pretty well to avoid the actual teams and figures, but really I shouldn't have said a word!

And at the time, he was playing at CB in the tightest defence in the division. Prem teams notice that sort of thing, and he was playing very well in that role then. A guy who is versatile is all the more attractive, as is one who can play passing football to certain teams on a budget.

Fair enough, if you know you know. you're not one to make stuff up on here. Can you say whether by "huge" you mean over what we reportedly got for Turner? Because if so I think we made the wrong decision.

We actually have a decent goal threat at L1 level: McDonald, O;Donovan, Baker - all would get double figures or more I reckon.

EDIT: God, I just found myself getting quite excited at L1 football!

Yeah, more than Turner went for. I won't go figures, but some guys were quoted who are defenders that have moved in this division of late when Turner went. In that direction, although not quite as much.

Makes you realise just what an asset he is, which alongside Lukas and the kids kinda entrenches the owners position somewhat. Plenty more guys to flog left!

Or to play SISU's advocate: We could afford to cut the wages as we have the nucleus of a good young side over the next 3-5 years...

EDIT: Can we get a title change to "The we're going down, but it'll be OK thread"?

Yes, but it is maybe almost conceding defeat in the short term and putting a lot of faith in young players consistently improving over the next 12 months if we do go down to get us back. But yeah, you can almost see their theory...

As they are all league 1 players they could tear up league 1?
Gael and thomas are far to good for league one even at this age?

Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!

I almost want us to go down now.

Wait a minute.... this is City: If I want it something to happen, the opposite will.

So confused.

I think so. I hope so. And I hope that it doesn't come to it. But yer have to hope that if it does, maybe there will be a future after all. Whereas I had been envisioning a swift drop to L2. I suppose it depends on if we can hold on to them all-and to an extent if Cody comes off.

I don't think we could hold onto to Thomas and Gael would probably end up with a team something like this.
-----------------Dunn
Christie--Mcpake--Cameron--Hussey
-----------------Deegan
-----------Baker--------Bell
----------------Mcsheffrey
--------Platt/Eastwood---ROD/Mcdonald
Even if we could hold onto Gael and Thomas they would be gone in 1 season if we didn't come straight back up.

I also think you will then be seeing the involvement of jordan clarke-harris he is getting plenty of goals for the under 18s.

Just looking in the programme and the under 18 league shows coventry sitting pretty at the top of there league I think its B out or A,B,C,D?
Just shows we are really starting to produce talent.

Ladies play at the Higgs I think... But yeah, we're bossing the ladies league!!

Anyway... It's just turned October and we're talking about L1 with quite a sense of inevitability... I don't get it...

Yeah, but it's not the top league is it? I'm not sure what's happened there to be honest because the top league is still the one with Arsenal ladies, Everton Ladies, Doncaster Belles etc. But it's not called the premier league anymore?!

I just saw (I was curious!). It's in the summer. So, I don't get it?! Do the top teams from the league Cov ladies are in get promoted to this new league and, if so, does that mean they don't get a break before playing in it?!
