Judging by the the 3 teams likely to go up this season vs the 3 coming down, (as well as the 3 potentially coming up from league one) Do we think the league will be somewhat weaker than this season,? And with a full pre season and his own signings, will Lampard have as good of a chance as ever to get us promoted?

Definitely think the three coming down are weaker than average.

On those coming up, Wrexham is the wildcard if they get promoted. With their financial backing, they could easily pull an Ipswich and get themselves promoted or close to it in their 1st season

According to this forum the league has been getting weaker every year so technically we will be competing in the conference north next season

Surely Birmingham is the wildcard. Tbh I still don't fully understand the rules and whether their owner will be able to chuck cash about in this division but they found a nice way around it by getting relegated.

Is that a genuine cheat code? Can you spend what you like in L1 and just keep those players?

As long as you get promoted first time of asking, from what I can tell, yes.

It becomes much harder for Wrexham has they have to deal with an actuall FFP rule if they get promoted.

Also how much would they spend? We spent it is said 40m and you see what that gets you

The three teams being relegated from the Premier League will always have an advantage with having the parachute payments, the only exception this year is Luton, who are spending all their money on their new stadium.

I think last night made a couple of things clear that maybe weren't before. Top teams have pace out wide; feel like a CB with pace is more important than one with experience. We knew we need a LB that has some pace like MVE does.

Feel it also pointed out that if we want to play a higher line, 3 x CBs doesn't necessarily make you any more secure than with two. Get a quick CB and an MVE calibre LB and that's some big shortcomings sorted for next season.

Birmingham will come up and do alright

Think they’d give most teams a game as they stand at the moment tbh

this year is by far the weakest league for a while

Leeds are very strong, but by no means invincible, and other than that Luton have fucked it, Sheff Utd are decent but nowt special and Burnley are ok, probably the best of the three

and Portsmouth, Oxford and Derby are all pretty shit

yet most teams are bunched up and a run of four or five wins gets you into (or thereabouts) the play offs

depending on who comes down, they will be far stronger than this year’s relegated teams, and the three that may come up will be far more experienced championship teams, and Wrexham who are a wildcard

it won’t be any easier

I think it'll be stronger next year. Potential for the promoted teams to cause a shock and better than the last lot and the relegated teams will be no weaker than those promoted.

Sunderland will be very strong if they miss out this year.
Blues already strong and basically promoted. We'd be better off if Wycombe and Stockport followed them over Wrexham/Huddersfield.

Wrexham won't be able to outspend most teams in the league as they have been able to do the past 4 years. The Championship is big boys money. They will need to change 8 or 9 starters to be able to compete top half. Mullin who has been there talisman is struggling to score goals in League 1. Lots of their old players Fletcher, Mclean, James, Tozer won't be able to play at this level anymore.

I don't think there's the money to get Lampard the quality he needs to build a serious promotion challenge next year. Sadly our windfall was largely wasted under the previous management.
Hopefully he can have a clear out of MVE, Sheaf, BTA, Collins, JDS, Binks, Lati and bring in a couple with quality amongst replacements.

What signings would you consider a waste?

No chance. That Birmingham team isn't any better than a Stoke, Hull, Luton etc

Collins, JDS, Binks, Lati, BTA seem obvious.
Only needed one of Thomas or Kitching. Needed another experienced CB.
More controversially I don't think Torp or Simms are good enough to take us forward. I would give Simms some more time though.

Less bothered by cheap squad filler than I am 2/4/5m on players who can’t do the basics TBH.

Think this is the weaker year with Luton messing up, Norwich/West Brom (recent play off teams) in transition, and promoted teams being mid table at best.

Top 4 look good other than that it’s very so so

You can spend what you like buying a player but L1 does have FFP on salaries. I think its 60% of the turnover. Loads of ways around the I guess with signing on fees and guaranteed salary increase if promoted etc.

Every season in August “This is the hardest league ever last season was unusually easy”

Every season in Feb “This season was unusually easy next season will be far harder”

No one knows. Everyone thought Luton would be unstoppable this year and no one rated Ipswich’s chances. Three or four teams will challenge at the top and 8-10 will fight for the last two PO spots just like every season.

Think L1 can spend what they like as long as the money is gifted to the club and not converted in to a loan but I might be wrong.

There is a salary cost management protocol and only a certain amount of income can be spent on salaries in League 1 & 2.

You wouldn’t of said Ipswich were full of brilliant players just a good solid team, as much as I’d love us to be able to put a team like Leeds together not gonna happen, we need to turn into a bit of a bastard of a team that others hate playing against, you know your in for a tough game, think grimes will give us a bit of that nastiness we’ve been missing, we’ve been too nice a team for years

No. The teams coming down will still be strong
The likes of Birmingham and Wrexham potentially coming up - they may not be top 6 material but I suspect will be competitive and able to hold their own.

In recent seasons a section of our fans have rubbished the chances of the like of Burnley, Leicester, Southampton and Sheffield United going back up, but all have been very competitive if not achieving promotion.

Might have Man Cty in there, they are one of the favourites to be relegated. Something to do with the up coming investigation.

Won't make a difference, if they are found guilty they will appeal it and appeal it until they have taken it as far as they can. Probably rumble on for another 18 -24 months. All of this season and next.
