Exactly. No matter what happens in these “huge tests”, someone always pops up saying it’s actually the next game that’s ‘season defining’, ‘life changing’ etc

They’re all the fucking same, you get 3 points for winning all of them, we just need to try and win them all & see where we end up, not make a special effort in particular games and have some kind of ridiculous doomsday countdown to any particular match.

Surely we get more than 3 points for winning all of them

We went top in 89/90 for a few days after beating Man City, then got whacked 4-1 at Millwall when Speedie had to go in goal, that was our first time ever at the top of the league

Yeah and were in the top 4 after Christmas that season. Completely collapsed late in that season.

Looking at Southend, they seem to have turned the corner a bit. Just one defeat in 5 at home, including a draw with Rotherham. Two of their 3 wins this season have come recently. Still, you'd like to think we'd go there and win the game. Don't like this talk of we can afford to lose points!

Totally understand but it's realistic, we will drop points from the next 15 matches but could still get automatic with 8 or 9 wins

We were also top of the first "official" league table for the newly created FA Premier League in 92/93. Beat Middlesboro, Spurs and Wimbledon to get 9 points out of 9 and top on merit. Didn't last long again

Yep it will happen. Would just prefer to have more of a cushion before it does. Two very winnable games coming up, got to be thinking 6 points.

I'm all for winning games in league 1 if it means we get out of it, been down here too long now. This is our chance you feel. Championship would be great, some great fixtures. Premier league - no burning desire to get there for the reasons you give. I've never been less interested in it.

Win the next two and we’re guaranteed to be 2nd as Peterborough have their second ‘Bury Week’ when we’re away at Rochdale. Would set things up perfectly for 1st vs 2nd at St Andrews the following Tuesday.

Remaining games this month. 6 out of 9 would be fantastic. 4 out 9 minimum.

After last night I think we could get at least 7 points from those games.

If we get 8/12 inc the Sunderland game then that's a fantastic return

definitely won't be as easy as people think. They nearly snatched a draw at St.Andrews when they missed a good headed chance right at the end.

I guess we can only play the teams we put ourselves in front of.

We repeat ourselves as we get older! Memories of looking at the table. 34 years was an achievement based on how much the clubs seem to spiral down nowadays.

I think it's more relevant to how our season is likely to finish to look at the next 5 games.
Southend, Rochdale, Rotherham, Sunderland, Ipswich.
If we can get 8+ points from those games, it will leave us requiring approx. 20 to 22 points from the remaining 10 games, and we will have played all the serious contenders except Peterborough, who have to be outsiders at this point due the amount of games they have left.
Wycombe and Oxford I think have too much to do now unless their form changes drastically.

Agreed I’m looking at the next 5 games here,Southend,Rochdale,Rotherham,Sunderland & Ipswich absolutely HUGE !!! It’s a shame we dropped the points so late in games else we would be clear at the top but have to add the points we’ve picked up late in games also to add balance.

If we beat Rotherham the prediction tables will go crazy. They are currently firm on to be champions/promoted.

But 1 game at a time. Points on the board is all that matters at the moment.

Same team bar Baka, replaced by Godden.
If we get a commanding lead then on 60 give a couple a rest and some game time for the like of Shipley, Mason, Pask and the new guy.
Certainly bring off Kelly and Callum. Also is Jones ready for a run out off the bench to get match fit for upcoming games? He would be like a new signing.

Am I the only one who thinks we will struggle more against Southend away than Rotherham at home? We just tend to make hard work on these fixtures!

A lot of people raring to go against Rotherham, when we have Southend and Rochdale first. Losing either one of those can completely change the mindset - it is after all the mostly unpredictable third tier. I know the tone has been set, but still. One game at a time.

Just keep sticking points on the board not forgetting that the sides around us will have to play each other not least Rotherham/Sunderland on the last day.

Won’t last people will be bricking it when we come to play Rotherham like they did before Pompey mate although I feel we will be massively up for it after whilst happened in the first game we give them the game & got bullied,Mason was poor that game think he was dropped after that game.

We were, still have the newspapers as my son was born the days after, keep reminding him its been downhill since he was born......

Wife said no labour pains the day of the Wimbledon game, left at 1:30, didn't make it to the game until half time but we were there at the end to joyously sing we are top of the league.
I do hope that my 27 year old gets to stand alongside me at the end of this season singing the same.
