Wonder what the value of the contracts are, obviously not tempting enough for them to sign as quickly as bell/Mcpake,does this sort of nonesense affect them on the pitch.

Chris McCormick - give him until Tuesday before he resigns - might last a day longer than the last poor mug

Imagine/hope any contract has harsh salary decreases for relegation/cup failure. Double edged sword though as why would anyone sign a contract ensuring a 25% pay cut in 8 months?

Lets be honest, Clingan, Cranie will be gone at Christmas, SISU won't let them go for nothing like Westy and Gunner. Would not surprise me to see Keogh go as well

If I was in Clingan's shoes I would not sign a new deal at this time. I would wait it out and see where the land lies towards the end of the season. I would do all I could to show what a good player I was and help the club during this time. Keeping my options open. In a time when players are dismissed or can't even find a club these days I would remain confident that I was good enough to attract interest from other clubs for my services if it was needed. Judging how financially strapped clubs are now it would be a good idea to keep myself free of a contract so I could move on for free IF I needed to. If this club gets it's act together and it's future looks secure I would then just as easily choose a contract extension here. I want to see the club commit to some loans we desperately need so we can improve as a team. As club captain I'm committed 100% but I'm also not stupid.

Just like Westwood, Clingan made his mind up some time ago and decided he wouldn't be signing a new contract.

Sheffers offered a new deal? WHY?????????? He's only still here IMO because of a trigger in his first contract that meant he could re-sign for a 2nd yr after so many games. Seriousy what has he, along with the others who were given extensions, done to get one?? Use the money we're offering to him to keep hold of Sammy and Crainie! Might make him put a shift in when he realises he's got to actually work for a new contact. One good game (Derby) a season isnt enough IMO!!

In all fairness... I don't think we're in the position to be overlooking new contacts to any players in our squad. There are no fringe players here (apart from Eastwood, but that's a whole other story). To have fringe players, you need a fringe. So, we need to get all our players signed up as assets... and so we don't have to look for replacements. Because we know how well our searches for replacements have been for this year's exits. I think the tactic is "Operation:Tie 'Em Down"

It's not great but what other option do we have if we cant bring anyone else in??

McSheffrey has been crap since he rejoined us, don't try and justify his offer by saying we can't bring anyone in so we must keep him, any kid from the youth team will do a hell of a lot better job then he has done for the past season. Thorn's dealings with contract extensions are worrying, Bell, McPake now McSheffrey.

I think to call him crap is a bit harsh. Inconsistant, maybe. Not as good as he was, definately but not completely crap.

I can only see it as a stability issue. SISU have agreed to keep us afloat until the end of the season. Then what? Who know's where we'll be financially or what league we'll be playing in. If we can't tempt players in at this point then how on earth are we going to attract better senior players next year? We are at our lowest ebb and I think this tactic of offering everyone a contract extension has a lot with the situation we find ourselves in. Unfortunately, Coventry City just haven't got the luxery of getting rid and finding someone better anymore.

I'd love a fit McPake in the side. I'd love an in-form McSheffery and Bell in our side too... can I see them all performing week in week out? No I can't. But who can you think of to play to their in-form standard consistantly and (more importantly) WANT to sign for us? When Le Fondre picks READING over us.

It's not a situation I like or would have and twelve months ago I would have been mightily confused and pissed off at it. Now I'm just pissed off at it. But come the end of the season, when our very existance is in contention, there are no Bosmans and if the teams in better financial postions want to pick at our corpse for free players, well, they'll have to pay.

Our club is broken. I really fear for when this season comes to a close because I can't see SISU reinvesting and I can't see anyone else coming in either. These contract offers are collateral damage.

Couple of things, Reading are a bigger club then us and have been for a number of years, not only do they play better football, in a healthier position financially, they have better players and due to their financial position are able to offer players 5 times what we can. Le Fondre joining Reading over us is no surpise, going there makes him the small fish in a big pond, coming here he would be the big fish in the small pond.

Stability is only a good thing if you're succesful or on the edge of being succesful, we are at neither of these points. Bell & McSheffrey haven't been in form for years (everything points to them not having it any more(in bells case, did he ever have it to start with)), McPake can't stay fit so pointless him being around. I can't believe you are even suggesting that teams would want the likes of Bell or McSheffrey. The players mentioned have a losing mentallity about them, sometimes all you need is to freshen things up and if the club can seriously not find anyone better then these we might as well just close down tomorrow.

If your missus was shagging the milkman, you wouldn't stick with her just because you couldn't find anyone better, you'd be like get the fook out of my house and be out on the pull the next night.

Don't think you can blame Thorn entirely, managers leave negotiations to the board ie Ken dildo

I agree that Deliu would do the negotiations, but i'm fairly sure Thorn would say who he wants to keep and have the final say on any contract extension agreed.

Thorn has to have a say on who he wants to remain on another contract - otherwise what is the point of him being at the club?
Bell decision was astonishing and McPake not a lot better. Considering SISU invest nothing offering contracts to Bell (worthless anyway in the transfer market) and McPake (a season ticket holder in the treatment room) is really odd. McSheffery is a spent force sadly so this again is bewildering. We are the Fawlty Towers of football. What next? A ten year deal for the deadly striker Roy O'Donavan just in case Barcelona express an interest?

So, what you are saying, Marty, is that it's better to have no team than a shit team?

As a player who in their right mind would sign for, or a contract extension for Cov at the moment ?

Owners who have said they will fund the club untill the end of the season. ( a statement that oozes passion and stability )

The only reason anyone would come to Cov is if they can't get a game with someone else or money ! and we all know there will be no money on offer.

Wheres ATs thinking going in relation to his articles today.suggesting that he wants to re-unite Keogh/Cranie at the back, suggesting Richard Wood will probably come in @ leftback, and suggesting he has'nt been overly impressed by Cameron. The major factor in our conceeding of late has been the narrowness in our shape and the lack of pressing the opposition IMO,if we're to make change at L/B ,it should be Cranie, who's been the most effective in the defensive sense for a couple of seasons .i know he's always expressed he sees himself as a centreback, but i don't think we should nessecarilly pander to him ,unless he signs a contract ,which i think we all know is not likely to happen

The new financial rulings mean that salaries will plunge and there will be loads of players made available by clubs. As a player you'd surely sign and hope that if a better team comes in then the club will sell you if a decent offer is made will sell you or if the club improve the squad that they will pay off your contract.

Job security in these times is important to all of us.

I don't think a date has been set for the new financial rules to come into play. It could be years yet.

I don't see why. They get paid more than any of us could ever dream of and then bugger off when they get offered more. As for financial mess. We pay our wages, we're not quite doing a Plymouth just yet.

I thought they started next season, but the penalties and when they apply have yet to be sorted. I'm sure most clubs are working on the assumption that they are coming, so they try to cut salaries, get promotion or find a scam.
