I agreeYeah but the context is timing etc.
Weren't proposals sent years ago by SISU and Cov Rugby as well? The one where the council said it was a "fishing exercise" or something.
I take it as an owner is exploring possibilities very loosely as a back up option based on only having a 3 year lease.Haven’t taken it in the wrong way
We have both no power and huge power us fans
We can literally make or break a club
He couldn’t have said that no
He could have said we have other plans that were exploring and will discuss them in good time for our input. No!!!! This looks like he’s deliberately kept something in bad faith
That’s bloody annoying and you and everyone should be annoyed
I agree
yes I think so
I think John and coventry rugby are a massive ally in this and have excellent relationshops with the council
No, it was CWR
Coventry City Council has 'no plans' to offer Wasps financial support
Seems pretty obvious that Gilbert has a sympathetic source inside the council and I imagine this is where today’s story is from too
It's an even less convincing bluff now, because Fisher was threatening a smaller low-cost lego development (to match our on-field status at the time), whereas this time around it's supposedly 40,000.Doug King is in no greater position to invest his own money into a new stadium than SISU were.
It was a silly idea then and it’s a silly idea now, we don’t have to pretend that threatening to build a new stadium is now some genius chess move just because the team is in better shape on the pitch.
That's a different story. The original story about the council bailing out Wasps in secret was Les Reid.
The council were trying to do a deal in secret, and Reid publicised it. Then, apparently, the council put pressure on the CET to get rid of Reid, they sacked him, he took them to a tribunal and win his case. Massively shabby by both the council and CET. I might not recall what I had for breakfast, but this I remember well.
Council agrees multi-million pound bailout of Ricoh Arena
COVENTRY City Council has today agreed a dramatic new plan to financially prop up the Ricoh stadium company amid an ongoing dispute with the Sky Blueswww.coventrytelegraph.net
He doesnt own that land, its owned by the estate across the road

One senior councillor, who did not want to be named, told the BBC: "This is not a discussion the city needs to have again."
This immediately pissed me off. Old habits hey……
He doesnt own that land, its owned by the estate across the road
the council didn't own the arena thenI mean if they wanted to avoid discussions, they could have just sold it back to the club, and not Ashley...the thick fuckers!
Okay, colour me intrigued.
I want to see in the proposal how they would of fit 40,000 seats in that spot
the council didn't own the arena then
Time to knock down King Henry’sShould put it near a station, that would be ideal for fans getting to and from the game.
it was the administrators who sold the arena to fraser group backed up by a judgeWho did ownership revert to when Wasps went bust?
They could be open to levelling it in theory, seems mad but it's a fair plot of land, don't know what the Ansty site represents on the profit sheet but bet it's healthy!?Not sure this is really helpful in anyway from Gilbert or CWR a week before the season starts. We don't own the stadium and don't at present have a long term deal to play there, you could easily argue its basic business sense for King to be putting out feelers for other options.
There's so much context missing was this a recent, urgent, conversation with Sharpe and CCC. A 'we're fucked and need somewhere ASAP' type conversation, or was it a 'one day it would be nice to have our own ground' type conversation because they are very different things. Doesn't even seem to say when this took place.
Hopefully the people running the arena just ignore it and it isn't going to cause issues with the negotiations. Last thing we need is a landlord who is pissed off with us.
There's been a lot of speculation that Frasers got involved with the stadium as a PR move with their plans to have a large facility in the area. If that's the case then surely they aren't going to be considering kicking the football club out. The chances of finding another tenant for the stadium bowl for a second time have got to be pretty slim.
Yep but it’s pretty important no?I take it as an owner is exploring possibilities very loosely as a back up option based on only having a 3 year lease.
It might if we have 3 tiers of seats, but we'd need oxygen stations about half way up and at the top!!He might need to remeasure the site because a 40k stadium aint fitting in there
Imagine if someone had the vision when discussions were taking place about how to revitalise the city centre to instead of going more flats and shops decided to build a football stadium.Time to knock down King Henry’s
Obviously zero chance but a stadium literally in the city centre would be a dream scenario.
Will it have a retractable roof and pitch?
Is that plot even big enough? Imagine you’d need to demolish/move part of spon street as wellKnock down the Skydome and IKEA.
Expand over the road and merge HEAT and the Sky Blue Tavern. Is that plot even big enough? Imagine you’d need to demolish/move part of spon street as well
get the bulldozers fired up!Is that plot even big enough? Imagine you’d need to demolish/move part of spon street as well
£3m isn't much to a club like Manchester City. But if he wants to put our rent up to something similar it would be massive to us.What is all this we have a cheap deal, yes it may go up if we do too,as you'd expect, even Man City pay £3m for the privilege,if we're making improvements they'll be contra'd off the bill or we'd be stupid.
Anyway Fraser's maybe happy to part with things when the price is right.
