It’s no more sensible than it was when SISU made the same claims multiple times.

Not really, as Sisu wouldn’t even pay for broken windows at Ryton to be fixed.
The idea that they would invest millions in a new stadium was laughable.

Moreover Doug hasn’t actually claimed to be actually doing this. Whereas Sisu said it was definitely happening, had identified the land, and had consulted architects. Where in reality they had looked at a map of Warwickshire and make a pretty picture in MS paint

Not sure this is really helpful in anyway from Gilbert or CWR a week before the season starts. We don't own the stadium and don't at present have a long term deal to play there, you could easily argue its basic business sense for King to be putting out feelers for other options.

There's so much context missing was this a recent, urgent, conversation with Sharpe and CCC. A 'we're fucked and need somewhere ASAP' type conversation, or was it a 'one day it would be nice to have our own ground' type conversation because they are very different things. Doesn't even seem to say when this took place.

Hopefully the people running the arena just ignore it and it isn't going to cause issues with the negotiations. Last thing we need is a landlord who is pissed off with us.

There's been a lot of speculation that Frasers got involved with the stadium as a PR move with their plans to have a large facility in the area. If that's the case then surely they aren't going to be considering kicking the football club out. The chances of finding another tenant for the stadium bowl for a second time have got to be pretty slim.

What annoys me is that the council once again are adamant we stay at the CBS no matter the cost.

Unless its mentioned somewhere else in the act there's no timescale on that so nothing to say that you need to communicate and consult with fans just because you've sent someone a letter and had a word with the council.

It clearly isn't credible - where on earth would a 40k capacity stadium fit on that parcel of land? It has very hard constraints in the road, railway and a public park. It is worrying that we're back to where we were 10 years ago, just different individuals playing the different roles.

Cross over with my views on the politics thread, landlordism is terrible.

The fact that Jon Sharp is directly quoted here makes me feel like this is an attempt at some pressure PR by King on Frasers.

They don't strike me as the sort of company that will give a fuck though so how well this works remains to be seen.

Truth is, as Frasers see success of the club growing, they'll be expecting a bigger financial commitment from the club. They're hyenas really and so will be pushing a hard deal to fleece us as much as they can.
But that growth is very uncertain.

One bad season, crowds drop off and it becomes untenable.

I wonder if there could be an element of the rent linked to attendance in a new contract?

It all depends on the context of the conversations as well.

If there's been contact with the council then can't an FOI get that?

I would suggest that it is somebody in the council that has leaked the story, to what end I don't know?

Only one party to blame for that and maybe frasers slightly too and it could easily have been leaked by the club

What could have been said?
good question that and I’m not sure what the answer is but still annoying that the line was we haven’t got a deal and we want one when he knew more was happening
Maybe transparency isn’t possible and maybe we don’t want it
Maybe we should suck up and just allow him to do what he wants with our club. I say no

Again it depends on the context doesn't it?

If he said to Jon Sharpe a while back "wouldn't it be nice if we could join up and build a big stadium" or if there have been serious plans drawn up.

Context is key, the story doesn't give any.

We're led to believe King doesn't have enough money to fund further transfers and is looking for external investment. How is he paying for a new stadium then?

Wouldn't your first call be the Uni who actually have the land available. Literally left a stadium sized hole in their redevelopment plans for the club to build a stadium.

The roof would be at street level, because to fit 40k in they would have to build the whole thing under the ground.

Just out of interest, does anyone know the footprint for the Council House? Asking for a friend.

No, it was CWR

Coventry City Council has 'no plans' to offer Wasps financial support

Seems pretty obvious that Gilbert has a sympathetic source inside the council and I imagine this is where today’s story is from too

I know more than Simon then it appears
He’s been in touch and I’ve fed in what i know
Be interested in frasers response if they give one

you’ve called it and it’s somewhere in between those two
It’s not my story to tell so I’ll let Doug and John tell it should they wish to

Yep context is key I agree but why would the club go to the council with a non starter of a suggestion?
Anyway bad timing but who’s to blame not us fans

Looking back, I imagine the max size for the butts would be 25,000.

Probably be a better fan experience with the CBS with the location but would debate if it would be good for the club in the long run

Is this something which could proceed or is it dead in the water?

You know what @chiefdave he could have said this

We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the club is not in the same position as before
He could have guaranteed that before any move away from the cbs was contemplated the supporters would be the first to know
He could have said he’s spoken to Coventry rugby club the council and whoever else about an alternative solution but our priority is to make a long term deal or to purchase the cbs
He was encouraged to say and he sort of said own the cbs but he wouldn’t be pushed on whether he had a figure in mind

I know some disagree but this is the most important issue facing us and hoping to go up so everyone would get a share isn’t planning or mitigating the risk

anyway work now

Doug King is in no greater position to invest his own money into a new stadium than SISU were.

It was a silly idea then and it’s a silly idea now, we don’t have to pretend that threatening to build a new stadium is now some genius chess move just because the team is in better shape on the pitch.

Let’s see what Doug and John and frasers say to Simon today as a follow

I won’t talk on behalf of Doug or John sharp or frasers

I will say the notes will show Doug said the situation hasn’t changed we will get a fine

I said what is his preference to own or get a long lease. He said own in a round about way

I said does he have a figure in mind and he said h wouldn’t say. I said I don’t mean an actual figure I mean does he know what he’d pay and he said he knows what the market says it’s worth

I know a proposal was sent to the council for a 40k stadium by the club
I know that John Sharp and Doug have been at one another’s games and discussed this
I know Doug was told it was a non starter
We all know it was rejected and now it appears the council have shared that with Simon

That’s all I know
It’s bloody annoying it’s come out now and I’m sure if the club didn’t leak it they will be bloody annoyed too

Pete I don't mean this too harshly so don't take it too as so but it's a naive take to say he should be engaging about topics without any kind of information.

If he came to a fans forum and said 'i want to consider a new stadium if I can't get a deal' the very first questions would - where, how big, do we have a relationship with the council and local agencies to support this.

It would look far more farcical if he engaged with fans before even exploring feasibility. It may be that he has decided it can't really be done already hence not needing to mention it but of course we won't really know.

Yeah but the context is timing etc.

Weren't proposals sent years ago by SISU and Cov Rugby as well? The one where the council said it was a "fishing exercise" or something.

Haven’t taken it in the wrong way
We have both no power and huge power us fans
We can literally make or break a club
He couldn’t have said that no
He could have said we have other plans that were exploring and will discuss them in good time for our input. No!!!! This looks like he’s deliberately kept something in bad faith
That’s bloody annoying and you and everyone should be annoyed
