Yeah but they are planned with or without a stadium as part of an existing plan for road improvements and the light rail system.

That's one of the good things about the site is the transport infrastructure has already been okayed by CCC

To raise capital same as Wasps did and other clubs do by mortgaging against the stadium.

Is it not simply the EC dropped the case? Disguising it as more is dishonest

There's nothing in that statement about a new stadium at all.
e.g.

"The decision will allow the football club and Coventry City Council to open a meaningful dialogue for the first time in a decade. All parties are of course committed to work together to create a world-class football club for Coventry...

....and together, deliver a football club which the city of Coventry can continue to be proud....

...The University of Warwick is proud to be able to support our city’s football club."

The word 'stadium' does not appear once.

Good news that they've finally stopped bickering with each other, but looks to me that the plan is to stay at CBS.

AFAIK, bond prices decrease when interest rates go up. So yeah, interesting timing after the latest raise to 0.5% - with more to come.

Well how can we raise capital - half lease would be £30 million as a guess and given the lease relies on capital loans who will loan against the unsecured half? Also how are we raising funds to pay for it?

Sounds like we didn’t submit some paperwork so we couldn’t stop it, we were asked to provide information and as we didn’t the eu commission dropped the case

Only from memory but doent the state aid rules specifically say that once made the complainant has made the application it can not be withdrawn and any decision to proceed further is down to the EU commission. Been a while since I looked at it so might be wrong.

To dress it up as sisu doing everyone a favour by dropping it is arrogant, patronising and two faced of the highest order. What they said before when making the application and what is said now cannot both be true.

Always have treated us as idiots, and doing it again in my opinion.

My guess is the university needed something from the city Council who wouldn't whilst the case going on or there was potential for further legals

I wonder when the EU made the decision

Really what is being said is that sisu won't take any further legal action. Not quite the same as EU closing the case. It seems to me our owners have had to give the legal undertakings that they said could bankrupt the club afterall. I never did believe in that threat they made.

Who says half the lease would be £30mil nobody knows, couldn't the football club issue bonds themselves, I don't know what the solution is as all we have is a field in Ryton and currently 9 years left on a lease to another hedge fund.

Its just another hapless and half arsed attempt by Seppalla to take over the lease that’s again hit the buffers. It’s funny politically you accuse Mr Johnson of diversion, lies and spin but lack the consistency when it comes to the ridiculous chancer Ms Seppalla

This is what most people were saying... apart from the Council, who were colluding with the trust , and Nick Eastwood of Wasps, to put out the notion that it could be requested to be "forgotten about"...
"no deal until "legals" dropped"...

The council were trying really hard push this whilst at the same time pushing the SISU bad guys angle.

Something definitely going on here.

If CCC are now holding Warwick Uni to ransome (alluded to in your post) as they are working with CCFC that is typical of them.

I think in summary

The case closed by EU not sure when though. So is the statement just about the EU case?
Sisu have no other avenue to legal recourse, so far from deciding to stop legals it hit the buffers and they have no choice. Stopping legals isn't just about the EU case - at least that's I how read the club statement
CCC would not deal with anything involving sisu whilst the threats of any legals of any kind remained.
Warwick Uni needs CCC cooperation to move the site development forward with or without ccfc. Probably pressured ccfc and acted as a bridge to CCC
CCC would I suspect not move forward without a binding legal agreement plus a very public declaration of no more threats or legal actions of any sort
Sisu dressed it up as doing something when in fact they had nowhere to go with it and no choice. They haven't really given much at all, it's just face saving (hoping fans have short memories).

On a positive note it must mean that there is some sort of development on the uni site, whether that is a stadium who knows.

Joy has met a brick wall, and it has cost millions and a massive amount of hurt for the fans.

At least now the team is the main focus for the foreseeable...... long may that continue

Yep. Never for one minute doubted the Unis plans for development. But have very little faith in said development including a stadium.

I do wonder why the uni and the club seem to be developing some sort of relationship though?

Transportation. Easier for the Leamington and Warwick ultras to get to Gibbet Hill. The loyalists in CV12 will be able to get a Maglev down to the new stadium once that's built in 2085.

Shame that “delivering a world class football club” didn‘t stretch to chucking our best manager in a generation £500k odd to bring an AM in.

Hate the location and the blandness of it. There are a dozen stadiums just like the CBS scattered around the country.

I am baffled. The one thing I can see is the council pressuring Warwick University into making SISU back down. But what can the Uni offer CCFC that would give them that leverage over the club?

The only thing I can think of is some sort of future deal regarding a new stadium, unlikely as that would seem.

Spot on.

Had to loan out a striker to a League 1 club because we couldn't afford an aging full back.

But you'd rather we moved to a smaller, cheaper, more isolated stadium in a university campus?

The CBS is the best of identikit stadia of that era. Steeper stands, good concourse, unique main stand and an awful lot more attached to it. The problem is it's been poorly run, lacked the crowds and involved in the decline of the club.
