Regardless we are still a professional football club on TV the Internet and in the papers every week. So there's that.

That is one myth put to bed that nobody would sponsor us!

Coventry City have signed a new two-year sponsorship deal with STATsports – a leading international sports performance analysis company.

The Irish-based firm works with a host of leading football clubs including Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona as well as the German FA, the Rugby Football Union and several leading Rugby Union and Rugby League clubs.


The company provides a huge range of fitness data and performance monitoring through its software system. Players wear a small Viper pod during training and practice games which measures and transmits the data, which can either be monitored live or collected and analysed by coaching staff.

That data can be used to monitor individual players’ progress and also compare them to other squad members.

The STATsports name and logo will be carried on the Sky Blues away kit and on the back of the home and away shorts.

The deal will see Steven Pressley and his staff have use of the full range of STATsports software and equipment.


Steve Waggott, the club’s development director, said: “This is a major commercial agreement which will give Steven and his staff access to some of the most cutting-edge fitness and performance monitoring services available in sport.

“STATsports work with some of the leading teams across a range of sports and really allow managers and coaches to have all the information to build a fully comprehensive fitness programme, and monitor the physical performance of their players.

“Steven is a very progressive manager who constantly strives to use every advantage, and he identified STATsports services as a key component of his programme.


“This deal has allowed us to sign this partnership agreement – something that ordinarily would be way beyond our budget. We are very much looking forward to the start of what we believe will be a very fruitful relationship with STATsports.”

STATsports founder and managing director Alan Clarke said: “"We are delighted to begin our partnership with Coventry City Football Club, a club with an iconic and fantastic history. As part of our relationship it will be our privilege to supply our technology to the club from first team down to academy level.”

That is good news to be fair. Not just a sponsor but we will also actually get something out of it.
I'd have preferred Stella or Carling or something, free beer.

isn't it a good thing? personally given the choice of a shirt without a sponsor for £40 and one with for £30 I'd pay the extra, (not now obviously because I'm not giving them my money at least until we are back in Coventry)

why would you wait so you could potentially advertise a random company across your chest? You got lucky and this logo is alright (although still draws the eye and dominates the shirt), but you could have had a bright yellow and red Chuppa Chups lolly sticker or something to ruin the great looking kit.

Is this the clearest sign yet we are coming home very soon- Would a prominent sponsor sign a deal tonight for two years for a club playing out of there city in front of a few hundred fans with very little positive publicity- or would they sign a deal knowing we are going back to the Ricoh and going to sell thousands of shirts with there logo on and the attraction of a big club which we really are

It depends what they paid but unfortunately I see it the opposite way, if the club have just taken a sponsor where they are being paid in kit and not hundreds of k money then it suggests they don't think we are coming back anytime soon. Without knowing the details though we can't be sure either way but it certain reads like we are getting kit not money.

Silly question, but does work in kind/equipment count towards FFP?

Edit: I suppose if it came to it, you could just charge them the cash then pay it back as a bill.
