I've just heard there will be a new permanent signing announced at 6pm tonight. Not sure how reliable this is never been told any rumours like this before so don't hold me to it. Apologies if it ends up not being true

Well he did say permanent so I'm not gonna believe him fully although I suppose a full season loan is fairly permanent for us!

No hasn't told me anything else but I will ask him again

Inject equity into the playing squad (which they can) and watch them flood back. So simple isn't it...

That's the chicken to the investment egg isn't it? As we saw with Coleman sufficient investment isn't worth shit if it's squandered on a moron manager. Really hoping TM has a chance to prove his worth and then the purse strings might loosen should we be in the right place come January. Of course then he could be poached by a Championship club and we are back to square one.

I'm hoping for a midfielder, so we can all go into meltdown again.

That'd be hilarious. A CB might do the same job too.

In all seriousness, a striker has to be the main hope. Not sure we're as desperate as people make out for wingers personally (although another one would be nice).

I would have thought Mowbray would have hinted at it if another arrival was imminent in his press conference this morning.

I was told this about the Dominic Samuel situation. Tony Mowbray wants him, Samuel is eager to come back especially taking into account the Mowbray factor, his current manager Steve Clarke doesn't really want him. However he is in the last year of his contract so he has options. One is to sit his contract out and come Christmas he can look for another club, not sure if he can play then or not. Reading will be entitled to compo and i think they are trying to broker a deal with us, now i don't know if we are dragging our feet or what but Reading it seems are looking for some cash and a sell on fee, understandable.I have a feeling Samuel will be here soon perhaps even today.

Think this is about as close as it got (taken from Twitter) -

"@Coventry_City - TM: "A player keeps calling me wanting to come to the club who's played at the top level. I'll make a call.""

The player Mowbray said keeps calling him is a midfielder!!! Mowbray says he would be mad not to take him though. It was also implied that the deal Mowbray thought was done yesterday that slipped through the net may not be dead in the water. I expect this may be the free agent winger.

Interesting, I normally follow the telegraph live feed for the press conference and this wasn't mentioned.

Wow...great news if true. You would hope that we'd be trying to get him on loan before tomorrow with a view to a permanent move. Get him now so he can stay straight away and negotiate with Reading whilst he's here.

I guess the only potential pit fall with that is that he comes here and starts banging him, thus Reading wanting to drive up a fee before we can get him in January for nothing.

Yep, I thought exactly the same thing. Not sure why CT didn't include it!

Taken from the Wall

Mowbray has just added: "A player keeps calling me wanting to come here who's played at the top level. It's another midfielder, but I'd be daft not to take him. But then I'm in that situation regarding budget for other players like a striker, but why shouldn't we have that level of competition in a squad, we need three or four players for each position in my opinion to challenge at the very top of this league."

Hope it's Joey Barton ! He's rich enough to play for the love of isn't he ?Now that would sell a few season tickets.

As much as he is a dick you would love him to play for your club - I cant see it myself.

I think it will be an experienced head that has played under TM before.

I would love to see a double signing today. The moral and confidence boost would help tomorrow

I think there is a chance of a double signing today. Possible this midfielder and the winger which was mentioned earlier in the week. Just tweeted Aida McCartney from the Telegraph who said the deal that broke down yesterday was the winger as a result of problems with the agent.

Apparently, coming from someone with FAR more intellect than me, we shouldn't really care and definitely shouldn't have ANY optimism going into a new season.

Perhaps those now very quiet loyal Coventry die-hard fans Joe Elliott and Gary Hoffman could sponsor his wages for a year.

Just digging around released lists, Boro released a left winger called Ryan Brobbel this summer, 22 years old. Never made a first team appearance for Boro but had 2 relatively successful loan spells with York and Hartlepool in League 2. Could be the permanent signing that has been hinted? A player TM will have known about from his time at Boro.
