Coventry City sign left-back Danny Pugh on a one-year deal with an option for a further year
Wed 16 Jul 2014 11:24

The 31-year old has signed a one-year deal with the club and becomes City's sixth summer signing...

Coventry City have completed the signing of defender Danny Pugh on a one-year deal with an option for a further year.

The left-back, 31, penned a deal to join the Sky Blues following the end of his contract with Championship side Leeds United.

Pugh progressed through the youth system at Manchester United and moved on to two-year spells at Leeds and Preston North End respectively before joining Premier League side Stoke City in 2008.

The attacking full-back made more than 80 appearances in the top flight and cup competitions for the Potters before heading back to Elland Road in 2012 on a two-year contract which ended this summer.

Manager Steven Pressley said: "We're delighted to be able to welcome someone of Danny's experience and quality. I've maintained that we only bring in players that improve the quality of the squad and Danny certainly ticks that box for us.

"He's shown throughout his career that he is not only defensively resolute but also poses an attacking threat which made him a definitive target for us as we build for next season.

"Danny will also be a positive influence on our younger players who continue to show promise and they will only benefit from his presence on the pitch and in the dressing room."

Has great experience and has never played below championship level in his career, could be a decent addition.

Was on the side of 6/7 thumpings last season if I remember correctly.

Will fit in fine! In all seriousness, sounds good to me and the experience should be good.

Don't get me wrong I know im in the minority here but I never thought he was brilliant but ive seen a lot worse. Andy Morrell and Israel Zuniga spring to mind.

So does that mean that we will be signing another Pugh, a Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub?

Edit: just noticed this unfunny Trumpton reference on the Pugh thread - doh! (and soz)

Danny Pugh tore us to shreads at Elland road in the Tim Sherwood era.

I also think I may have seen him score a cracker for Preston against Coventry .

Both a long long time ago.

Is that because we're all going to go blind!!! LOL! Only joking, mate!!! I know what you mean really! What you're actually doing is bringing up the issue of us playing at Sixfields, which, as I'm sure you'll agree, needs to be debated a lot more on this forum!!!

You'd only need your hero Richardson to return for a full set.

Good solid player happy with the signing, remember he was class back in the old championship manager days which is always the first thing I look for in our new signings!
