No doubt. Just seems strange on the face of it.

That's fair enough but you've got to think long term and we already have 2 top players in that position. Getting another in just makes the squad even more unbalanced when everyone is fit and at the moment we are performing better in his unfavoured formation. Fair enough if he can play more than one position but people said that of EMC.

Wright was apparently telling people he would be back early Feb. We just bring in this guy and MvE gets injured against Leeds we have 3 left wingers, no right back. What if Tats gets injured, CM, LB, CB? There are loads of places I would look first.

Pretty sure Matondo was a target because he can play on either wing.

We do need a RW because Raphael isn’t up to it.

Alex Mowatt would be an absolute dream but he’s got a year and half left on his contract and I don’t see West Brom letting him go.

Frank can only play his beloved wingers if he acquires a CDM and a better central defender to play alongside Kitching. If we go two at the back we are going to struggle. We went through this with Robins in League 1 and earlier this season.

Lewis Travis would fit the bill ( currently injured though)

I agree that we need a CM, RB and a CB, I don’t believe we need to shuffle the pack at LB until the summer.

There’s sufficient cover in all the positions you outline that we don’t need to change the system. Even if MVE got injured, you’d stick Lati at RB as he played many times last season.

Lampard wants to play with wingers, we only have 3 wide players so we need 4 first team options. EMC and Matondo won’t only play LW, both players have played a lot of games at RW as well.

The last point, we could be talking to 3-4 players at the moment and just because Matondo is the closest (or was) to signing doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve prioritised this position.

Since Lampard has taken over, the defence has generally improved.

I’d like a marquee signing at CB, but Kitching and Thomas were a good partnership last season, we had the 9th best defence in the league and that’s with poor form towards the end of the season.

With 4 first team options, unless we sell a CB, I don’t think we’ll sign a CB. As for CMs, I’m quietly confident that a 4-3-3 with Torp-Sheaf-Rudoni could potentially do very well. Torp is really growing as a player under Lampard and quite eager to see how he kicks on.

Special shout out to Allen because he deserves a contract extension the way he’s playing. He was someone I was happy to release at the end of the season but he’s proving he can be a good role player in the future for us.

The problem is, expectations were raised due to speculation that there were a number of incomings waiting to happen on day 1.
Results have picked up, we have 3 key players to come back in, Allen, Kitching, and Dovin have risen to the challenge so far and are like 3 new signings when you compare to the team of a few weeks ago. I think there is no need to rush panic buys in at the moment, if the right players are not available or hold us to ransom we should wait. So not a disaster for me.

We've just had back to back wins, with 2 clean sheets. We've not been forced to sell anyone, and we've got Wright, EMC and Sheaf to come back in.

Yep, total disaster!

It’s a shite window and we very likely aren’t going up or down - no point paying over the odds for mediocre players. When Haji and EMC back we should be much better going forward so no panic needed!

It was a question not a demand. Genuinely interested what makes you so negative. Can barely remember a positive post you have made.

Steven Presley (as a player)

On the plus side can only think of
Colin Stein
John Fleck

As it stands, this might be added to a third list:
Lots of nailed on transfers that didn’t get over the line.

Coventry City are delighted to announce the signing of Kwame Poku from Peterborough United for a (large) undisclosed fee.

Kwame will return to Peterborough on loan and join the City squad at the end of the season.

Nah - he’s a 1 in 5 game player. Disappears in most games (weirdly seems to look unplayable against us)

would be expensive.

I am positive a majority of the time. The squad is in need of some more quality options. This was before Wright, EMC and Sheaf got injured. If another Cm got hurt we’d be fucked. If MVE got hurt, we are fucked. We need a couple in those two positions.

Only a loan but topical as we've just played them, Darren Jackson, with that tackle on Batty!

And I am sure the club are aware of that. Why you can't just wait til the window closes before losing all sanity tho is beyond me
